May be off topic just a bit, but have any of you guys purchased/used one of the Mantis training systems......the Mantis Laser Academy in particular? If so, I'd appreciate any/all input about which system.....the X10, X3, X2, Laser Academy and why you think one of them might be better or worse than the other.......

I picked one up for Black Friday and unfortunately haven’t even opened it. Immediately after buying, I went to juggling 2 jobs for a month and a half as I transitioned from one to the other. That and the holidays made life chaotic so I’ve had no time to play with it. This past week was my first to slow down and play catchup with the rest of life. Hoping to play with it some by the end of this week.

I’ve heard great things and one of my primary shooting buddies loves his.

Ok so let me start by saying Ruger sucks. Everything they make that’s semiauto has been unreliable trash in my opinion (and I’ve sadly been exposed to and used a lot of the stuff in this category).

And yes this includes the 10/22. Marlin 60 shits all over it every day of the week. Don’t care about the vast aftermarket if it’s polishing a turd. I’ve had 2 of them and both were terrible.

The RPR was a good value when it was released but it has been far surpassed by many others, especially considering the price hikes on it recently. With so many build options out there and companies like Bergara offering the off the shelf performance that they do, I just don’t see it anymore.

Their American rimfire and revolvers are fine but good lord, it’s the easiest shit to build. My uncle bubba can build a passable revolver in his shed with a 40 year Bridgeport and a harbor freight tig welder. Hell, Taurus makes a passable revolver FFS (yes Taurus sucks, get over it).

and this is why it pains me so much to say that this makes my pants fit a little tight. I just might have to buy one before long (if I ever recover my other recent slew of purchases). https://woodshopwednesday.com/shop/...g-slot-oil-rubbed-finish-72940-sld-cst-wd-stc

What about the LCP II, got good reviews for a 380 pocket carry?

Nope. I'd rather throw rocks at an assailant.

I honestly can't think of a striker fired micro under $500 that's worth a damn in my opinion. The only 2 that come to mind that I'd trust are the FN Reflex & Glock 43 (I know, groan; but they have a reputation for reliability for a reason, even if they suck in every other objective & subjective category). And those are going to bee right around that $500 price point. Yes, Sig was excluded intentionally.

If you're hellbent on the lower price point/footprint combination then I'd recommend pocket hammerless. I don't buy into the whole "revolvers are more reliable" as a universal statement. It's simply not true anymore. However, I do believe it to be categorically accurate in this discussion: micro compact footprint <$500.

I'm not a fan of the LCP, regardless of version.
    Snappy cartridge
    Minimal magwell for control
Overly slender magwell (left to right)
    Overally difficult for control.

I’ve been using the X-10 for about a year for both dry and live fire. Highly recommended.

Over that time I’ve improved my trigger control, draw speed, transition speed, mag changes, and accuracy. I’m currently working on split times and recoil control with an emphasis on return to zero.

The difference maker for me is the ability to visualize how my inputs are impacting the stability of the pistol by viewing the data and graphs. I run a drill, evaluate the results, make a change, evaluate the results, rinse and repeat until I get the area of focus sorted.

Within the App, there are a series of courses. At first I thought they were a gimmick but after completing several of them, I can attest to their effectiveness to hone and turn basic skills into muscle memory.

Many times at the Range I’ve observed new shooters struggling to figure out why their impacts were off target. On 3 occasions I introduced myself and asked if I could connect my X-10 to their pistol. They agreed so I explained the proper way to activate the trigger, walked them through dry fire and then live fire. In each case their accuracy improved within a couple of magazines because they were able to visualize how their inputs were impacting the result. You could see the lightbulb turn on.

This might come across a bit douchey… you’ll get out of it what you put into it. For me, it’s been very effective.

Thank you for that detailed response. To be honest, I'm really torn between the Laser Academy and the X10 Elite. I watched so many videos that my head hurts and I still don't have a clear decision in mind.
