Bought it about 1 week before Zastava announced no more imports. Putting the ALG in this week, and getting a 4 piece device for when the can goes back on my 300. Still deciding on red dot. Just missed the PA sale over 4th of July.

Love my zastava, but damn it’s irritating in one regard. If it sits more than a week, I have to foot mortar the charging handle. It quickly develops rust in the gas tube and piston and lightly seizes. Doesn’t matter which clp I use to prevent it. It’s parked next to all other AKs, and they don’t do it. Plus I have a plug in dehumidifier there. If I shoot the last little remains of corrosive, I clean it when I’m done. Luckily most of that is now gone. Even if I shoot non corrosive only, it still does it. My psa gf3 i intentionally shoot a lot and put away wet and dirty, so to speak…….since it’s just a cheap psa …..Zero issues. Beautiful piece you got there, by the way

I use 55gr cheap ammo when shooting 2&3g at ranges to 300 yards. Not all cheap ammo are equal so before I bought thousands of rounds I bought 20 round boxes and tested. Winchester, federal, PMC, fiocchi, wolf etc.
The worst was 2” at 100 but 1” was found with fiocchi and PMC xtac.
Obviously more goes into achieving sub moa than just ammo but with the other bases covered cheap ammo can get it done.

Federal is great but not exactly "cheap" 55gr these days. I used to like Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics but I never see it anymore and their Range Dynamics line seems hit or miss in my experience. IMI is decent but only one real source so you're at the mercy of their sales schedule if you pinch pennies like I do. PMC Bronze has been my go to here lately and I've been pretty happy with it. I'm routinely able to engage IPSC & BC steel targets at ~460-470 out of a 14.5" barrel during my 2/3g matches.

Won't touch Winchester, Wolf, or AAC with a 10 ft pole.

Haha rifle ammo still isn’t cheap. IMI 55gr is my go to but that’s all bought years ago. 556 is still close to 50cpr, which I wonder if it will ever drop

My buddy just gave me a bakelite grip to try, too.

Test fired my upgraded grip XC yesterday. One round in the magazine first...then a mag with two rounds to ensure no hammer follow or other malfunctions. Gun functioned perfectly.
Trigger breaks at 3 pounds exactly.

The texture of the Atlas Alpha grip absolutely transforms that gun for me.

I verified my zero while I was at it...hits were a little to the right at first. When I was done..I put 10 rounds into a 3 inch bullseye at 10 meters making the same hole bigger.
I think I'll use it at the AGC steel plate match this Sunday. @RonR I may see if we can join you and your son in your squad. I saw you were registered Amigo.

Sheeeesh………can’t get this import business out of my head. Might say screw it and scoop up a couple more zastavas…….you know……as an “investment”;):D

AKs appear to only be going up in price. If you got some spare dollars laying around, may not be a bad idea.

Speaking of AKs, I just snagged a minty Arsenal SAM7 for $900. Seems like a solid deal from what I can tell. Buuuuuut it does have the Magpul furniture which I’m pretty sure is basically the worst thing you can put on one.

Help me decide on furniture. Considering it’s my first AK, I’m thinking more classic than tacticool (even though I am quite a fanboy of tacticool things). Wood handguard and dong for sure. Maybe wood stock, maybe triangle folder? Who makes good furniture for these? Surplus would be tits but that oddly seems hard to find. Combloc customs has some really nice looking stuff but fuuuuuck it’s way pricier than I expected. Is it worth it? Are there better options, especially regarding value?

Yall know by now I don’t mind paying for good shit but I also acknowledge the diminishing return principle. And in this case I’m looking more for the Glock or BCM of AK furniture and not so much the staccato or knights armament version.

Arsenal’s are junk………I’ll give you 9-fiddy to take the sting out of it :p Awesome deal!!
For furniture, there’s a grey laminated color called tree bark, that looks awesome to me. Can’t seem to find the site I found it at before…….but psa does carry it too. They’ve got it in a “shark fin” front hand guard too, that supposedly is better than a dong, due to the dong apparently somewhat impedes rapid mag changes. All my AKs have standard style furniture, accept one with a triangular folder…….so I’ve never shot with a dong or even the fin type for that matter. I’m trying to dig for that site, other than psa, for that furniture, to no avail

Shot the ATACR 1-8 today and it really is impressive. I’ve got a superlative arms AGB and no matter what setting or where it was on the barrel it was always undergassed. Can’t decide if it’s worth screwing with or just throw a regular one on there and be done. I’m assuming the gas hole wasn’t lining up but there is a dimple in the barrel that i used and I also tried in front and behind the dimple.
Put an Eotech on the FRT. it’s still useless but maybe less so now

Wish I could help, but I'm only on AK #2, so I don't know much. I've been told wood is best insulator for hot barrels. The CNC Warrior (side folding) brace is a solid piece, comfy to shoot. That's about all I got, sorry.

    Steeltoe What's my move?

Anyone run a piston upper? I'm mainly looking at Sig Spear or PWS. Leaning toward PWS.

Then there are the Jakl and BRN 180 and BRN 4.

PWS is the only one who guarantees 1 MOA but I don't know what the others are capable of tbh.

I've also looked at LMT and LWRCi but their piston uppers are impossible to find and frankly geared more toward .gov contracts, not what I'm looking for which is an accurate range and varmint setup.

I built two with Superlative Arms piston kits.
I also have a Robinson XCR.
    But no experience with PWS

    Steeltoe What's my move?

I've looked at kits like Adams as well as XCR and Bren 2, Galil etc for an entirely different platform but I'm sticking to something I can pin on an existing lower.
