Guys, sorry to get this old topic back, but it seems that my K9 crank is gone. Bike has ONLY 5600 miles on it, only mods are dual yoshi + XTRE + K&N air filter. See the sequence of what happened: 1 - Bike was running around 140 mph; 2 - Engine started to vibrate like a monocylinder engine; 3 - I saw the temp on the panel increasing from 181 F to 194 F; 4 - Engine started to lose power; 5 - Engine stalled. Everything above happened on less than 10 seconds, I didn't even have time to think about anything. Then I parked the bike on the road and tried to start the engine again... the engine didn't even turn. Took the bike to the dealer and he found the battery was not being charged, so he swapped the battery and the engine started apparently with no issues, however when we pumps the throttle a little noise comes from the engine and we feel the engine vibrating. The dealer has not opened the engine yet, but since the battery was not charging we are thinking that the crankshaft is broken at the stator side. It seems that suzuki has fixed this issue on the L2 crankshaft, does anybody know if I the K9 crankshaft can be replaced with the L2 crankshaft? The PN's are similar: 12000-47850 K9 Crankshaft 12000-47860 L2 Crankshaft
Might want to re read this topic carefully but I thought the change was not only to the crank but also to the cases. So putting a updated crank into the old cases won't help even if the crank fits. ymmv.
Really depends on how many powerbands he put in. Aftermarket powerbands on a gsxr1k are just asking for the cranks to snap near the red limiter.
No no no, you just need a carbureted power commander. Makes it a 600,750 or 1000, and also eliminates the red limiter.
I was at +- 10500 rpm 230 km/h ~ 140 mph Here is the video when the failure happened, you can hear something strange between 13 & 14 seconds... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRT6x58Pttk&hd=1 The bike is stock, except for the XTRE + K&N Filter & Dual Yoshi (cat not removed).
