With the season over and Yamaha (seemingly) finally dropping the R9 it's time to start the crackpipe theories. I'm not up to snuff on who is under contract for 2025 or not; feel free to fill in or correct what i'm missing: Superbike: Warhorse HSBK: Herrin\Baz - I don't see any reason these two don't return and stand out as the title favorites based on their late season performance. Tytlers BMW: C. Beaubier/Beach - A healthy CB6 is arguably a title favorite as well but will he return? If he does, will he stay with BMW? TopPro BMW: SDK Attack Yamaha: Gagne/Peterson - What can Gagne do on the "updated" R1? Will his arm continue to cause problems? I also believe Peterson will get the boot. This year was shit or get off the pot and I don't think he delivered. Will Yamaha try to entice CB6 back for a dream team? M4 Suzuki: Escalante/Paasch - I think Richie has shown serious promise in his limited time on the bike this year. I think Paasch has done well enough to at least be worthy of another year. How much does that Suzuki really have left in it? It seems to be seriously falling behind the competition. ADR/Wrench: Fong - Definitely the surprise of the year. I hope they find a new title sponsor with their newfound success and continue on. Scheibe BMW: E. Beaubier SBU Yamaha: Smith? Honda: Does someone field a superbike spec Honda? Gillim showed they were not far off the SBK pace with a STK1000 spec bike. The contingency money seems too good to not pursue. Others? Supersport: Rahal Ducati: Jacobsen/Yaakov/Alexander - All under into 2025. With the R6 out, PJ is the early favorite. Yamaha/Strack/N2: Scholtz/Davis - With R6 no longer legal for competition and R9 drop imminent, what will Yamaha field in 2025? My guess is a "factory" effort under the Attack Performance banner with Scholtz and Davis as the riders. M4 Suzuki: Scott/Hobbs - I've heard rumors that Teague will get the boot. Who will they look to as a replacement? Tytlers: Mesa TopPro: Gerardo Honda: Honda just gave the Euro/Japanese CBR600RR a significant update and homoligated it through 2032. The next-gen rules allow a spec HRC cylinder head and cams. Will someone import a 600RR for competition? Others? Talent Cup? How many full season entries will there be? Who will do double duty between their "normal" ride and the talent cup for that shot at a Red Bull Rookies cup seat?
Is Scott Redding out of contract for 2025? Doesn't he live in SoCal during the offseason? He could make a good choice.
The R6 is homologated for several more years. However from a factory support standpoint, race teams will need to be on the R9 which will be announced on 10/9.
It is finished unless it has been very recently updated. Homolgation ends January 2025. Listing_of_FIM_Homologated_Motorcycles_for_2024__15_February_2024.pdf (fim-moto.com)
According to that list the Aprilias aren't going to be homologated for SBK in '25 either, so there goes THAT pipe dream. -T
That RSV platform has been in production since '09. Their most recent production bike race data is 10 years old at this point. No way it makes sense to homologate a platform that should be retired by now. Aprilia is taking a page out of Toyota's lifecycle playbook with the RSV4... nearly 15 years in production at this point. That tooling is paid for baby!
CB6 comes back to Yamaha on a 2 year / retirement tour on his second year? Not basing that on anything other than it would be a “feel good” story. Also, I feel like Yamaha needs to reset rider wise and a healthy CB6 would be at least “we know where we are”. Especially with no guarantee Jake can heal fully.
He was mostly finishing 10-20” behind PJ and Matt. He and the rest of the young guys / and Kayla still have some growing to do in Supersport, and until they can run with PJ and Matt, and what other Superbike caliber riders that may end up in the class, they’re probably not ready for the next step. Like I have to give SDK credit as he was running right with PJ, Fong, and Gillim in 2019. He showed he could make that step. None of the up and comers really did that this year. After this year, Attack needs someone who can run up front and doesn’t wholesale equipment. CB6 is that guy when the bike isn’t trying to kill him. JD too.
I'd like to see CB6 stay with his current team next year for many reasons - unfinished business and the fact that Gagne is deserving of his #1 rider status at Attack and IMO they shouldn't relegate him back to second fiddle which is what'd happen if Cam returned as Richard has a deep respect for Cam more than any other I think. Hopefully Jake's fully fit next year and Attack can squeeze some more juice from the R1, and I'd like to see them add a hungry teammate like Scholz/Rocco/Blake/Escalante.
He surely can't be under contract for 2025 if the team is dissolved. Maybe he's just contracted until the team finishes the season?
He is under contract with BMW for 25' https://www.crash.net/wsbk/news/1052171/1/scott-redding-his-worldsbk-future-im-contracted-bmw-2025
