OK then! Now let us move on to the real gun question: Which is the best gun to own?

Just like any tool - depends on what you want it for.

1911s are expensive, antiquated, failure-prone, junk.

    Failure prone?

Hell, the one I have from the original Springfield armory still works great.

Just wait 'till you get around to shooting it (got to be a few pages in that).

    :p

Unrelated question: Is the BBS set up to somehow auto-logout inactive users? I don't like having multiple browser windows open, so I find myself logged out often when I navigate back here.

I am certain all of the dead guys killed by these .45's
wished they were expensive, antiquated, failure-prone
    junk.

Yeah, I have one that I purchased in 1980 and have fired thousands of rounds thru it with not one single failure. It may be junk but it's good working junk.

Hell yes. Good combat-qualified junk, too
Capable of punching a big hole in someone.

Don't be negative. Think of all the other guys still alive because shooters forgot that antiquated manual safety was on - should thank their lucky stars they weren't facing a Glock!

Jesse: you better think this through...
there are many combat veterans, police officers, criminals, and
regular citizens who have polished off their antagonists with this
very same antique .45 (with the thumb safety) you describe.

Yea, sure, a Glock looks better, maybe is better, but in truth,
the best gun in the world is the one in your hand when you
need it, no matter who made it or when it was made.

I shot it about 6 or 8 months before my dad died (it was my great grandfathers) and it worked flawlessly. It's been a while but not sure why it would magically fall apart.

Give me a little credit - the Glock vs 1911 debate is the gun equivalent of Traxxion vs Thermosman.

(Did I forget to mention the grip safety?)

Well the hell with either of them, the best one I've got is my Beretta 90-Two.

Having both Glocks and 1911s I can say with authority that..............firing both of them is a hoot. The military says the 1911 has a maximum effective range of 25 meters. As far as I'm concerned, if a person is closer than 250 yards, he's in big trouble. My .40 cal Glock is more accurate than that. If I dropped them in the mud first the Glock might be troublesome but the 1911 would not.

    this gun...that gun...
    this shoots better...
    that shoots worse...
    blah blah, naa naa...

Real men would shoot it out to settle this.

    BANG BANG.

My money is on Mongo and the .45.

    Any takers?

    Funny you should mention that:

I'll give the old war horse a fighting chance, anyone know what police departments currently issue the 1911?

(BTW - I don't *really* believe they are junk, and only failure-prone when too many racy trinkets are bolted into them, but this thread was fizzling.)

Thanks guys. This reminds me that I need to renew my permit.

1911 isn't issued because most cops can't hit a patrol car at 5 meters with 7 shots....
