On his approach, he reduced speed and it was at that stage that he lost control of the bike. HE!!!! lost control of the bike !! Also refused an airbag suit! This is how you kill racing
Getting injured and becoming unable to continue working is a life-changing event. Unfortunately, we all know people who had it happen. To me that is worth alot more than this lawsuit amount. If you buy a nice house that you couldn't afford before, its a function of time before you won't be able to afford taxes, insurance, and maintenance. And you are back to square one. Paying off an existing mortgage will have an effect on one's budget, for sure. But it won't be a life-changing event. That amount is not enough to retire on, or shift your lifestyle into a different orbit. I have no skin in the game, it is just a hypothetical discussion.
Bro, he is riding motorcycles with no modifications. Exactly how disabled do you think he is? You don't have to spend the entire money on a house. It's well enough to buy a nice, comfortable cottage in the countryside and have plenty left over for decades of property taxes. And yes, going from being a renter living paycheck-to-paycheck to a homeowner who doesn't have to worry about a mortgage or taxes would constitute a life-changing event for a lot of people.
Stupid expensive from what I've heard. Better to bank whatever he gets after taxes and lawyer fees, he might be able to buy a used Toyota by the time it's all done.
Yep, very expensive. Not sure whether you pay tax in the UK on money awarded by the court. I know you don't on lottery winnings etc.
He doesn't have to live around London! You don't think most people away from big cities can buy a cozy house for half a mil? I'm pretty confident that his BSB announcer job can cover property taxes and food. And he looks like he could handle a part-time job on weekdays, if needed. Anyway, point is he ain't eight-figure injured. Not on this side of the Atlantic.
He was around in racing at the end of the good paydays wasn't he? Must have banked something from racing? Really? You get taxed as all F in the US as you know with lottery winnings. I'll go back and see if I can find the info but who all did he sue?
Tax is included in the purchase of the ticket. From what I understand when laying a bet in a betting shop you can opt to pay tax on your stake or on the winnings. The circuit and the governing body of BSB.
Was it ever determined if that circuit usually had air fence in that turn for bikes but didnt for this test?
IIRC Shakey is/was doing alright financially. If you look at his IG he was going from one Porsche to another. And this was after his forced retirement. Fuck him.
I have known 8 or 10 people who suddenly went from barely being able to rent a home from me to sudden wealth. Within five years of the windfall, every last one of them was worse off than they started. Riches to rags is an easy path.
From that 2nd article it seemed that when they race at that track there would be airfence in front of that tire wall, but it wasn't installed for this test.
No one!! Held him at gunpoint, and put him on that bike. It's a first rule..If you don't like the track or conditions, load up,go home! And one mil,and some change would definitely be a life changer for this knuckle dragger! (me).. I coulds buy the name brand 40's from the quikie mark! There's tons of youtube video of countries where you would be a king with that kinda money. It may be the shooty/stabby kinda countries, but pay for some scurty gards
I am guessing that his lawyers argued that although he could still ride a bike, he was no longer able to perform as a top racer, therefore to do his job. I am guessing here. Even if your mortgage is paid off, you still have to pay taxes, insurance, and upkeep. So, instead of paying a landlord, you start writing checks to the government, insurance agents, and maintenance, all that while still living in the same neighborhood. Where is a life change here? A bit easier on one's budget, but you are still on the hook. My point was that I didn't understand the amount of this lawsuit, in US there probably would have been another zero added. Look at the lady who spilled coffee at McDonalds. That said, I have never sued anyone, and hopefully never will. So all this is pure speculation.
He didn't have a ton of years left making good money from racing. Let's say 4 years @ $250K per and we have a mil.
