You Tube evidence may not be enough to stop a "concerned" family member from having him declared non compos mentis. I'll wait for the whole story to be revealed before I form an opinion. Personally, I've never gridded up without at least some level of realization that this could be my last ride. It would take an egregious lack of diligence on the part of the racing organization for me to feel justified in legal action.
Here's the laundry list given at the time of the original accident. https://www.motorcyclenews.com/spor...18/may/bsb-byrne-confirms-extent-of-injuries/ “I’ve got two bruised lungs, all of my ribs are fractured, I’ve got four broken vertebrae, my neck is broken in two places, I’ve got a broken sternum, collarbone and multiple other back fractures,” Byrne explains. “Fortunately, there was no paralysis, which is a big, big bonus as that was a real concern at first. The first thing my surgeon said after seeing my x-rays was ‘how on earth are you not paralysed?’
I wondered where you had been? Sorry to hear about you're wreck. That sux! I had a camaro clean me out yrs ago,and settled like an idiot. My necks never been right since.
Like some others others here I've learned over the years that it's real easy to just whip out the pitchforks when something like this happens. Hopefully there's more to this story than meets the eye. Shakey continues to be a part of the color commentary team for the BSB events. I don't know what that pays but he's something of a rock star. He has the ability to parlay his fame into revenue in any number of ways. Hell, he could just put his name on a racing school and never so much as throw a leg over a track bike and make insane money. He has plenty of name recognition and excellent diction to be a spokesman for any number of motorcycle and racing related products. I cannot fathom why he would be strapped for cash unless of course there's an addiction problem. The lawyer talk is definitely bullshit as any of us knows who've ever circulated on a track at or near our personal limits. If you don't want to face death or disability for adrenaline's sake don't race motorcycles.
Thanks for that. I remembered him getting all sorts of messed up but couldn’t remember all the injuries.
Oh I’ve been around lurking and not posting That accident was back in 1996 Hence my posts in Dave’s Gitiin Old thread I’m just now slowly getting back to my old self after life throwing some curveballs at me and also making some poor life decisions But it’s been a helluva fun ride and can only get better from here on out.
Rumor has it that he's trying to put together a grubstake to purchase some defunct seafood restaurants...
That's what happens when you type too fast and don't reread what you just laid down. Meant to be suing But yeah @HPPT got it. Combo of sue and ruins.
Too funny as right now between IT jobs I’m working as a sous chef and I can attest to the horror stories I’m reading in the Red Lobster thread
Isn't Shakey doing rider management also? I want to say he reps Brandon Paasch, and I want to say maybe Alex Lowes....
Let's take aside the legitimacy of such a lawsuit for a moment. What I don't understand is the amount of this suit. It was / is 1 mill, correct? After lawyers take 25-50% for their service you are left with 750-500K. Lost wages, at least in the USA, will require you to pay taxes. So, you are left with roughly $600 - 300K cash money. Hardly a life changing amount. I am sure there is more to it, but doesn't seem like it was worth the effort to sue. But what do I know, or care.
