My pet-peeve: Streetriders telling friends/family they Race and/or They are "Going Racing this weekend", cause they do TD's ... TD is not even close to competing. Shadow boxing vs climbing into the ring. Not the same.

It used to be called a 'Racetrack' for a reason.
Used to be called a Racebike for a reason.
If there was a # plate on your bike, it was a Racebike. If your name was on the back of your leathers, you were a Racer.... and an 'Expert' via WERA/BEEB 'rules' on Not allowing names on Amatuer leathers :D It's in the rulebook(!) ;)

Now it's called a 'track', and a 'trackbike'..... pffffffft

"But but but but but buuuuuuut my lap times are" ....... pffffffft

    There, I said it

lol. It was a mistake. I read the headline and skimmed the article. I thought they were also organizing racing. We all know the difference between track days and racing, haha.

Only licensed, or previously licensed Racers seem to know the difference :D

To be fair, I did a track day a week ago and my friend kept referring to it as a race, haha. I corrected him, but I didn't know it was a common thing to confuse them.

We have a popular local streetrider.
He did a race school in 1989 (was the slowest guy in the school, the 2nd slowest was my girlfriend, at the time). He never got his race license, never issued a competition number, never entered a race.
He did one local trackday in 2014, did one day of the weekend. There was a fatality Sat, he packed it up at the end of that day.

He found out that Nicky Hayden raced WERA at our local track back in the 90's .... I have heard Many people tell me, he tells the blow-by-blow, corner-by-corner Battle against TZ125 riding 12yr old Nicky, versus him on his GSXR750 slingshot. "I would pass Nicky on the straights, and he would get past me in the corners, back and forth, blah blah blah" .... The local kids eat it up..... I had one local newbie streetguy tell me "so-and-so is a local Legend" ..... to invent fantasies, and be able to tell them straight-faced is a mental disorder.

I asked him point-blank once, "When did you race exactly?", he starts hemmin & hawwin, "Wasnt it in June or July?"
    Me: Huh? What?
"You know, the race-school (Mock) race (in 1989)"

    F me

    #Legend

Don’t even try to compete for the Moderately Correct title. That is already taken and the owner is already enshrined with it. ;)

Hahahahaha. That’s amazing and a bit sad too. I raced, albeit a lot less than the average person here. The whole “race career” lasted about 2-3 years. Had an expert championship and a few AMA Pro races (4 to be exact). I def don’t say I’m a racer now. My last race was in 2014. In fact I hadn’t been on the track since then until last weekend. I did get a suit and all the gear though, so only a matter of time before I’m “forced” to do some club racing. Haha

If you raced, you will Always be a 'Racer' !
Most people have Raced more weekends & gone through more sets of tires, in one or two seasons, than I have in 4 decades. I still raced though, still was a racer :)

Nothing wrong w/ trackdays/track-riders, good for them, It's a LOT of fun.... but when they start lying/fabricating, I get bent. I am too physically/mentally beatup to ever even think about racing again, if I had the money I would do some TD's in beginner group.

Anyone going to try the Evolve GT trackday at Ozark on Sept 13th? Supposedly their owner has found it to be outstanding with a different layout.

it’s 6.5 hours to drive there for me, so not that bad, but I’m really curious.

No. And while they may have a different layout for bikes I still wouldn't put them on there.

NCM ditched the last corners sections for bikes. It is a fun ride, but I'm pretty sure I would not want to race it. There are still plenty of places that are foreseeably bad.

I was all up for trying until I watched a video. I'd cruise around it but I counted 4 places that if you went down at speed, there's a really good chance that bike may bounce back on the track.

There are several sections that look fun as hell, but not on a bike. No way would that be safe.

i've heard in a car it's great fun, but still have to be cautious in some areas

I really hope we do revisit this thread because of a "I told you so" moment. Most, if not all of us know how quickly and weirdly things can go wrong in a milli second.
It would really be nice if they could fix the darn track and minimize the armco issue.

I sure hope you meant don’t.

It’s frustrating as fuck when they build new tracks that are unsafe before a wheel is even turned on them. Then they wonder why people and orgs won’t race there.

I know it sounds simple on paper but for fucks sake consult with experts and pro racers on layout and runoff and walls/barriers before even starting construction. But then again that would make total sense so therefore it’ll prolly never happen. :D
