My understanding is that straight pull is popular in Europe due to land restrictions and their driven-type hunts. So, you gotta squeeze off a lotta rounds before the dogs push all the game out of sight. Which reminds me, Krieghoff’s Semprio looks like a nice straight pull. Tool-less caliber changes and all, for what, $10k+ It’s like having one rifle for the price of seven.
Have you heard any good or bad reviews of Great Lakes Firearms & Ammunition (no longer doing ammunition) in Sparta? They have long action mag calibers in ar platforms. You can get a .300 win mag in an AR. They were on Michigan Out of Doors Television (episode on Youtube), this week. The owner said he would rather shoot one of their .300 win mag, than a 450 bushmaster for recoil. They have 6.5PRC Only thing is, I cant take it to Canada to hunt if I get an ar platform. Ski
I'll ask at the next shoot. A couple of the guys are actually from Sparta, so probably at least know something about that company. Will advise early January.
I think the Beretta straight pull is $1600ish. Quick change barrel. Bolt heads can be swapped without tools. Bolt handle can be switched from right to left side. Adjustable trigger. I think quick change barrels are the future of hunting rifles.
I’ve found the Beretta for $1430-$1499, carbon barrel is another $200. I’ve close to pulling the straight pull trigger on a 300 Wm & a 243 barrel kit.
What do people like for stocks that mount on a buffer tube? Outlier has their own stocks. I bought the heavy version. I ordered some forend weights for balance. Really butt heavy. But the whole deal will be too heavy for hunting use. Chassis uses a set screw to hold the buffer tube in place, so I can quickly change stocks.
I maybe parting out my Ruger American . The gunsmith seems to have jacked up the barrel. I’m gonna take it back to see about fixing but it shot great before and now it’s key holing at 50 yards. May have an mdt chassis available soon
Shit Travis! That's terrible. That's why I'm hesitant to send anything off to be modified. Afraid it'll either be botched or take 2 years. Here she is. It'll have to wait until it's warmer before it gets painted. I mounted the scope and bore sighted today. Waiting for long 1/4 drive allen bits to set action screw torque. Will probably be after Christmas before I get to shoot. Hopefully my forend weights come in Monday or Tuesday.
They have chassis systems for them in Euroland. I could see the straight pull being an advantage in competition.
One reason I learned how to do that shit myself. Very few "gunsmiths" left locally (as within a 50 mile radius) and every one of them has a bunch of clusterfuck stories on them. The last 2 real gunsmiths locally retired a decade ago.
Have you shot it without the suppressor? Or is it keyholing just from being shortened/threaded? I can't imagine what he could have done to make it shoot so bad. Do you have a picture of the crown and threads?
Yeah I’ve shot without the suppressor. I’ve got a couple things I need to rule out but the most obvious is the crown is messed up.
That sucks brother. Sorry, you are dealing with this. Hopefully, it can be righted. Or buy a pre-fit barrel, and upgrade it. Ski
Great night of hunting. Right behind my house 2 came in at 325 yards. Somehow I blew the shot and missed. They both fucked off and ran out of sight. I about called it after that. Decided to load up and drive to a new spot I’ve got access to. Called and called and called. Saw lots of movement, but nothing would come in. Decided after about 45 mins to walk back to the truck and bam, 2 were sneaking up on me. Popped one at 235 yards, and 5 mins later got the 2nd at 450!! Man dragging a dead coyote nearly 500 yards through a chisel plowed field is a JOB!
I lost all my stuff in the wildfire, but SIG sent me out a brand new scope and MSR optic, and I just sent the remnants of my rifles in to Ruger last Friday. They are going to massively discount new ones for me. 2 stand up companies that stand behind their products and take care of their customers. (it was a PC9 carbine and an American Hunter 6.5 that I lost)
There's a new gen RPR. I like it, but MSRP is $2149 for a standard rifle, $2799 for a custom shop rifle. That's getting up in the MPA price range. It'll be interesting to see what street prices are.
Is that what they are calling the Gen3? I have been seeing more and more of them being talked about. Ski
Really? Surprised they’re trying to break into that market. They seemed to have a lockdown on the entry level value sector. I assume they’re abandoning that with the new gen?
