Just found a white 1993 VFR in Wyoming for $2500. Only has 10K miles, but hasn’t been started in 4 years. But I sent him a deposit anyway. The adventure begins!
Ok, so I bought the ‘93 I found on Facebook that was in Wyoming. I shipped it to a guy that is a specialist in Hondas and he’s going through the bike to bring it up to speed. He sent the forks off and I’m having cartridges put in them and putting an aftermarket rear shock on it too. He’s already gone through the carbs, we’re replacing the carb boots, radiator hoses, brake lines and voltage regulator (a known problem with this generation of vfr) both wheels are getting powder-coated, and new tires spooned on. The forks should be done in another 2-3 weeks, then hopefully the reassembly will be done fairly quickly. I also sourced a left-side-exit exhaust so hopefully she’ll look pretty sharp when she’s finished. Also, my Honda expert removed all the engine side covers, (which were looking pretty ratty), bead blasted them and powder coated them black. I think once everything is done, my bucket list bike will live a happy, privileged life in NC. Pics will be provided when we’re done. Thanks for your interest.
Good to hear. Don't forget to toss on stainless brake lines. Hope you got the Tyga full system. They are pretty nice. What cartridges are you putting in the forks? DMr is the only one I know of, unless Fast Bike Ind. is fitting an F3 cartridge or something.
I’m using Jamie at dmr. It’s the cartridges he has on his website. Yes, brake lines are already on order. For the most part, the whole bike is being restored and any parts that need replacing, will be. I’m pretty stoked about this project. Tyga doesn’t make a left side exhaust for the 93 vfr yet, this is a two brothers system that I found. I sent it off to be ceramic coated so it won’t rust away on me. Tyga hopes to produce a left side exhaust by the end of 2021. If they make one, I’ll certainly buy it.
The guy working on mine is nearly completed with the restoration. He sent me a video of it starting for the first time. The whine of those gear-driven cams is so cool. I should be able to go pick it up within the next few weeks. I’ll post tons of photos when I do.
funny I used to ride with a gambling boat pit boss that had one... him rolling the down the street the mechanical sounds and the exhaust note made it seem like a 60s muscle car was on approach. My crotchety old neighbor used to stand at the window fuming...lmao.
