I read it…what did I miss, if anything, because I'm not sure i understand exactly what it tries to convey?
The article starts from the assumption he is right while ignoring Vargas' own history of racism. It is amusing that most 'hispanic' people were considered white prior to the government creating a segment to Balkanize them.
It's a good thing that they have people like you to speak up for them because, in my experience, they are too busy going to work, buying homes and businesses, and raising their families to spend a lot of time whining about how unfair life is. I have sold multiple homes to first generation Latino immigrants who somehow manage to get ahead in the world without white privilege. For whatever reason, they will only buy in overwhelmingly white neighbourhoods. Apparently they feel safe and welcome there.
It seems to me that the article simply continues to push forward the idea that whitey is the source of all racial issues. No one else is willing to accept their part in the problem.
I just figured maybe I'd try a few things and see what works for me. This is all so new, there really aren't any rules yet.
I will be the first to agree there was prejudice and it was worse in some areas than others. However the government institutionalized it and now it will be harder to erase. Though it does not change the facts of my original post.
