hey guys, any suggestions on who i should get to rebuild my shock?
i had the oil changed and gas recharged soon after i got it but
something ain't right. the spring is for my weight, pretty sure
the ride height is correct or in the ballpark, but i'm burning up
rear tires. i ran soft tires at VIR and never really got them to
hook up in turns 1&2, or 7, then it spit me off. any advice will
help. almost forgot, it's an older model fox. thanks seeya

Sounds like you've got too much preload on the spring. Back it out 2.5 turns. Does it like to hop during downshifts on the brakes and spin up on exits? I'm ignorant on shocks but that's what T-man did to mine when I was having the same problems. If that doesn't help send it to Thermosman. LOL

it's not hopping bad, but is spinning up. if i decrease my preload i
think i might have too much sag, i have about 1 1/8" now.

    ....think i need theromosman's #.

Dyle, thanks for the pm. it made me feel lot's better. Sorry to
hear about the loss of your loved one. hope everyone's ok.

eboz, thanks for your input, anything will help at this point

The one thing (only thing sadly) I learned from Kent at GMD was that you should never over preload a shock to get your sag right. It will do exactly what eboz said. It sounds like you might need to get a stiffer spring so you can loosen the preload while also getting the sag right. Don't trust the numbers on old springs. T-Man or GMD or Max should all be able to hook you up.

T-Man is great but busy and hard to get the work done fast.
GMD is great and fast but pricey
    Max is.... well Max. :Poke:

Oh, and take all I said with a  and call a real suspension person in the morning.

Greg, sounds to me like it doesnt need rebuilding if you just had it done.

Try slowing down your rebound and always run mediums.

    and always run mediums

    and always run mediums

    and always run mediums

When you get down to the times your running, along with multible races your just gonna fry the poor little softs. The M's feel better and hook-up better(JMO).You can still spin-um up,but predictably and without demonstrating how to walk on air.Always run mediums:rock:

No representation is made about sh&t.So there:beer:

Don't make the same mistake I made............less rebound does not mean.................less rebound DAMPNING.

Indeed-------more rebound, slower to return.Run it all the way in and count how many clicks.(clockwise or up the shock)write it down then return minus about three clicks.Try that first and then maybe 1# higher on the compression. One thing at a time though.Or maybe you will be lucky enough to find thermosman at a race.He will tweak it in about 2 minutes.

Hey Greg, give John at CTR a call if Thermosman is backed up. He did a pretty good job with the old zx6. I had the same problems you are describing when I got the bike from Louis. John fixed them along with the front end(the front was completely f*cked). His turn around is usually only a couple of days. That being said my new bike has the full monty from Thermosman on the front and it is by far the best front fork set up I've ever felt.

I ran the softs YDC everywhere in the mid atlantic BUT Brian's right there is no way you could do that with the tracks down south. I ran the YDC at Jennings last year in the 05 spring classic and it pealed like a banana. At Summit the soft's flat out kicked ass! VIR too. I was only running 1 solo and 2 sprints with them though. I've never lost the rear running softs but then again I wasn't racing against guys like Brian on the SE tracks every weekend.
