Regardless of who's decision it ultimately was, I'm sure the NBA and players are pretty happy about it. Saves them from having to answer any tough questions. Apparently some of Steve Kerr's Twitter history shows that he has retweeted support for the Hong Kong supporters. This from someone who claims to not know enough to have an opinion now.
Virtue signalling can be done without any opinion. Or forethought. Or actual concern. Or a brain. Or integrity. Hey, this is fun!
How long would it take NBA officials to put a stop to players kneeling during the Chinese national anthem in protest over human rights abuses in the Middle Kingdom at exhibition games?
Somebody's comment has to be sticking to somebody at this point, no? Or are you guys using double rubber?
Citizenship is irrelevant. The NBA has demonstrated it has a most favored nation status when it comes to free speech, and that nation isn’t the USA.
Everyone has the same rights, which the NBA should acknowledge. It should be more of a priority to stand up for those whose rights are curtailed by the state. If they can't do that when it's difficult then they should shut their fucking pie holes about far less important shit in the US. They're money-grubbing cowards.
And just like that, I may have to pony up and start paying for television, if only to watch one show.
