Update - 7:00 AM CST 02/09/07 If you are so inclined, your thoughts and prayers mean a lot. From the Floribama Riders Listserve: 7:00 a.m., Friday: Brett's scan was done this morning about 1:00 a.m. Everything looked okay. They are going to do the next surgery at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. It was originally scheduled for 8:00 a.m. this morning. He is still stable and the doctors have now, several times, eased up on his medication to be sure that he can do simple instructions. On each occasion, he has been able to respond and then immediately put back under to keep him comfortable. This has been a very serious accident and it is possible that Brett's body on his right side may be completely gone from the right side of his neck to his rib cage. Eventually, they will let him wake up. His parents will be there with him at that time. You can imagine how tough this will be. Colleen mentioned to me this morning that this would be a good time for his friends to be there. We probably would not be able to see him, but his mother and daddy could tell him that we were all up there for him. Nobody is sure just when that will be, but when that time comes, hopefully we will know in advance enough that we can plan to be there
Very rough deal - he still needs the prayers. Clipped post from the FBR list: Friday @ 1:15 p.m.: I'm emailing you from the hospital, Brett is out of surgery now. He is now in the Trauma Intensive Care Unit on the 9th floor at UAB. They cut off more muscle tissue, folded a thick piece of his bicep muscle back over his upper chest to fill in and did some trim work. Doctor's say things look good and they are encouraged. It is unknown just how much control he will have over the right side of his neck because the muscles were stretched so much. David, his dad, says he checked and looked over Brett's entire body and could not find another scratch on him. It seems like his right shoulder was the main hit. However, David has his helmet and it is split in 3 places. It probably happened as he flew off of the SUV. . . . . [CLIP] Brett's parents are feeling much better now since it appears that Brett is going to make it. Oh, just another bit of information, they gave him over 92 units of blood, plasma and platelets. More than 10 times of his normal body content. We may know in the next 8-10 hours just when the doctors may start bringing him out of sedation. They want to let him get as strong as possible before they start doing that.
Whoever purchased a set of leathers from Brett Cole to be delivered to TGPR this weekend by Brett - I have them and will be at TGPR by 7am tomorrow. Brett's family wants to make sure you get them. Look for expert 515 (old red, blue, and white FZR400).
