Yeap... fast enough to do 90 on the highway... and small enough to park on a bicycle rack. I did a lil work to mine so it eats drive belts a lil more frequent but well worth the sacrifice for the smiles per gallon.
Vespa ET2 is what you want. Last modern 2 stroke 50 with centrifugal clutch. There's one at the southern part of Florida you could probably snag for $800, and then spend $400 on hop up parts to go from 4hp up to 17.
There's a couple nice 1965 models listed on the Facetubes in the San Diego area. They're both a bit pricey though.
There's a stinky, grumpy old Vespa pro in Pensacola at D&D that can help you out. Great guy actually.
I’ve got a 1958 200cc stinky. Proper 3 sp twist grip shift. It’ll do 80mph, which is sketchy as hell on 8” wheels. It last served as a pit poser with my cute granddaughter, who is now about to get a drivers license. The original owner (80yo) gifted it to me because I was his Vespa tech, and he wanted it to go to someone who appreciated it. Haven’t considered selling it, because why should I? But since I’ve not used it in 10+ years, and like the original owner said, I don’t see a use for it in the future and it would be a waste to let it sit. Haven’t researched value, and don’t really have a number in mind. Perhaps a trade? Maybe you have something you don’t want, but I do?
