In late January, the North Rim at over 8000 ft above sea level will be under feet of snow in a typical year. It won't be open for visitors. The North rim is closed for the season, and is scheduled to open to visitors on May 15th 2022 As @Big T noted, the south rim is around 7000 ft above sea level, can be very windy & cold and also gets a lot of snow in winter, but at least they plow the roads to the south rim in winter, as people live in Grand Canyon Village just outside the park. https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/weather-condition.htm How well does the lamborghini handle snow and ice on the road? Be sure to buy ALL the insurances. And mount a dashcam. We want the videos.
Yeah, we hit a hell of a snowstorm going into Flagstaff 4 yrs ago over New Years. The Range Rover we were driving handled it beautifully.
I rode the Goldwing into Flagstaff during a blizzard in March 2006. Winter weather up there can be iffy at best.
After McGregor/Aldo fight, I had a hard time accessing the elevators to the suite I'd booked for us. Yeah I was wasted, phone was dead and I'd separated from my group. Front desk were really nice. Directed me to The Venetian....I was trying to access MGM elevator :/ If ya don't like smoking, Vdara penthouse suites are awesome. Currently 2 grand +/- for a 4 night stay in January. Last time I stayed at Vdara it was just about twice that rate.
I’ve been at mammoth and watched a lambo pull into the mammoth black pass holders spot and back right in during a snow storm. Two perfectly outfitted individuals got out, grabbed their boots and helmets and walked right into canyon lodge. It was cindered but I walked right through where they drove a few hours earlier and it was hard pack and pretty slippery. I was pretty shocked so walked down to check out the chain situation - there were none. Driver had winter tires on it but no studs or chains!
Shows - Go see Penn and Teller and O. I like Carrot Top too. Hotel - depends on what you're into really, I'd say find one with a restaurant or two you'd like to eat at, not having to travel to dinner is one of the best things about staying in a casino. Gambling is obviously easy and everywhere. The boss and I tend to prefer off strip when we're there for work, downtown works too and is great for people watching. Haven't done the main strip for years. Get a players card for everywhere you go and gamble, even if it's only spending a few bucks. If you like it and go back it'll pay off long term and most cards cover multiple casinos. Don't mess with the Lambo, if you have to drive one do one of the track experience deals. The drivers in Vegas are lost tourists or from all over the world with all of their own driving habits from where they learned - and they do NOT mix well. Drivers there on the whole suck ass and the roads don't see much rain so they're all dirty and slippery as hell - worse when it does rain or when it's cold. Driving down the strip is fun - at night - once. I'd play the canyon or Death Valley by ear based on weather. Both will suck if it's cold, there is nothing blocking the wind and it can be as bad as at home in the corn fields. Personally I wouldn't do either one without having more than one day for them. We did DV over two days and did it in my Jeep - drove up from Vegas one morning, toured around seeing cool shit and mines and the like on gravel roads and a tiny bit off road, stayed the night at a casino up there that allowed dogs, more sightseeing the second day and then back to Vegas that night. Another issue there in January is the length of the day, you don't get a lot of time to see stuff. Grand Canyon we did a run to on the way home from a race out there, stopped, went yep it's a big hole in the ground, hit the road again. Glad we did it but again, wouldn't bother if I can't spend a couple days to check it out for real, it's just too damned much for a day trip for me.
Ok, ITS ON! Flights are booked. We will be out there feb 2nd and come back the 5th. I did contact the rental car places. Can't drive out of state. But, did send me a link to places like fire valley, hover dam, etc.we can drive to. So now I really need to narrow down hotel, good show to see, what place for a nice dinner.
