Been looking a dirty bike, found two that are available.

    Which does the beeb suggest?

All use will be here on my property chasing the kids around on their 110's. No motorcross parks or anything like that. Maybe will take the kids to an adventure park to ride different trails, but again, will be with the kids.

2018 KTM 250 SXF - Ad says it has 70 hours, 10 hours Factory Connection suspension. $4500

2011 Yamaha WR250 - Basically stock except bark busters. 4045 miles - $4000 hoping I can talk him down to $3500.

    And go!

Has the KTM motor been serviced/ rebuilt?

That's a lot of hours for the KTM 4 stroke. I'd steer clear if the top end hasn't been serviced.

The WR is more what you're looking for and much more reliable for just tooling around in my opinion.

KTM ad doesn't say anything about motor, just that "very well maintained"

KTM will have a better giggle factor but the WR will run forever.

Really, those were the only two options? To fart around why not something like a DRZ400 ( a dead nuts reliable tractor).

Pretty hard to find XRs that haven't been clapped out by now.

WR would be the better tool.
    KTM probably the better deal.

The KTM is definitely a way cooler motorcycle. :)

Give the kids some hope of kickin' dad's ass for Pete's sake.
    How big is the property?

I was thinking a Honder air cooled but can't remember what they are called now. CRF?

He could go big and XR650. :D But finding one of those used might be tough.

    Kids are on CRF110's.

Yes, I've been looking for an older XR200/250 or CRF230s but they aren't out there. If they are, they are either beat to shit and junk or the people want retail for them.

Possibly, but they're out there. I had a 250 and 400 and they were as reliable as an anvil. Only thing they're missing is that magic button. Buddy had the DRZ400 and it was great too.

    I'm 6'6" and 240lbs. A TTR125 is a wee small.

We have trails running around on 10ish acres.

Just heard back from KTM guy.

He says valves were in check and piston/cylinder looked good as of 10 hours ago when suspension was done.

You on a TTR125 would be like some kind of TTR-one-two-five holocaust!

I ain't never seen a TTR take a whoppin' like that!

  20. You will bate the Ktm riding with the kids, especially being the sxf. For that money look for an exc 200 as you can still have fun on it yourself. I’m about your size, crf 230 or ttr. I’m in your area and the 230’s that are good go quick that’s for sure.
