Zero wind protection and no cruise control. Build quality is ok although the suspension is dated and soft(all fixable). I spend most of the time hitting up mountain and canyon roads around western NY and north central PA. It get 50mpg without even trying and if i do put it down it is pretty cheap to fix compared to a sportbike.
In europe they have the touring version of the FZ07, the Tracer 700. If they had that bike over here it would be nearly perfect for what i need. I saw a FJ09/Tracer 900 the other day. It looks like a good bike but it was around $10k. Much better wind protection and a larger tank too.
I like my 2007 Tuono (Ventura rack and bag, Ohlins remote preload adjust shock, Puig screen to clean up the air a bit, lowering pegs because I am over 6' tall). I would go with a Givi tail trunk and mount kit instead of the Ventura if I had to do it over again. If I replace it, I would be looking for something like the FJ09 / Tracer. While the function of an adventure touring bike is about what I am looking for, I hate the styling on most of them.
Bought a new GXSX1K last year, it's awesome and was a good deal for a new bike. However... I've only put about 3K on it (much of that commuting). Between home projects and racing, most of the nice weekends are too busy to get any real riding in. If I could do it over I'd get a used Tmax and spend the money on more racing.
Hypermotard. Make sure you get a windscreen if you plan on doing any extended highway or high speed riding.
08 Kawi Versys 650 with light touring farkles and suspension work. Nearly the perfect do it all bike for me. Stopped riding sportbikes on the street and switched to something with some ...um...versatility a couple years back lol. Its a good all around bike. But the Grom is where the joy is. Stupid fun little bike.
I've got a FZ09 and my wife has the FZ07. My 2014 has suspension work front and rear (OEM stuff was really soft the first several years) and I've also got the ECU reflashed and mapped for an Arrow full system. As previously stated, very little to none on wind protection, but I didn't buy it for long trips or touring. My wife's FZ07 is bone stock, other than a small windscreen and the suspension works fine for her....125 lbs or so. I rode it for the first 600 miles to break in the engine for her and was quite surprised how well it handled and the amount of power it had for a 2 cylinder bike. The FZ09 is a torque monster for approx. 850cc and I have to say.....it's one of the most fun bikes I've owned since I started riding....1971.
Another vote for the FZ09, three years and not much more than 10k miles. Suspension and a flash, I'll be trying out a windscreen soon. Great bike.
My K5 GSXR-1000 Bought it brand new and love it to death, even if as said its not an ideal street sport/tourer. The fact that its was basically a racebike with the street bodywork back on it now, but I just can't bring myself to sell it as its my baby.
Well as opposed to your track bike that is not street legal and is only ridden on the race track, it makes sense.
