They're delusional since those get handed out at the paddock gate unless something will be different tomorrow morning. Mostly don't worry about it too much, gate tix and the email and you'll be good to go based on last year.
How's the market for SV crap at the swap meet? Cause I've got 3 broken SV's, probably 20 assorted wheels and other crap littering my and Joe B's garage...
One guy rode up to our pit and said I've got an exhaust for an SV over at my booth. I looked down at my bike and said thanks, already have one. Other than that haven't noticed much SV stuff. It's too new for that crowd.
Well - not a great start to my first race weekend so far. Fortunately only a tiny bit of time and gas was wasted. Because I pulled in “after dark with my trailer”, I was told to go to the staging area. I did not pack camping gear because I’m local and per what I’ve read leading up to this, I should have been able to find a spot and drop my trailer tonight. Is this new? Did I miss reading something?
Rumor floating around is that they reached max capacity for vehicles sometime Friday afternoon. This place is packed.
So I pay to race, invite a few people to check it out, and I might not have any place to set up at? I don’t want to do a repeat of yesterday where I do a 2+ hour drive round trip, waste gas, and get turned away again.
You'll have a place but you won't be able to come into the paddock in the middle of the night and put your pit in a fire lane or someone elses space - which is exactly what happens when it is this crowded. So while I didn't know about the no trailers after a certain point I'm absolutely in agreement with it.
What do you suggest for today? My plan for today is (was?) to stage my gear today in a spot, and enjoy the event. Leave early evening, arrive early tomorrow morning, get my bike teched and focus on my two races in the afternoon.
Took the wife to VMD today (her first MC race, my first time at VMD). Had a fantastic time. Thanks to everyone involved in setting it up and to the racers for putting on a great show! Hope I can be on the track with y’all next time.
The event was probably the most insane event I have been to in my 20 plus years with WERA. The road racing was great and the amount of people that showed up to race was fantastic. Sadly, we had a mechanical that couldn’t be fixed at the track and had to pack up and go home. There were two negatives to the event: 1. I showed up on Thursday at 2:30. I should have been there when the gates opened because it’s a loooooong wait if you get there in the afternoon. 2. Track surface is great but it needs HEAT. We went out for P1 and the track was 89 degrees. Second practice was better and by P3 it was good to go. Everything else was great!
Yep, we had a blast too. The RD actually made 6 laps this year before she crapped out so maybe next year we'll actually get it in a race. But my son and I had a great time on the SV's. He cut 11 seconds off his best lap last year and I cut 12. Big thanks to Greg for giving us some great coaching advice. The WERA crew was fantastic as always. Thanks to everyone there that worked so hard to make the event happen.
A huge thank you to all of the hard working WERA folks who made Sunday go well for me as a first time racer and provisional novice. Fortunately, today was pretty easy logistics wise. Folks at registration got me my transponder, tech took a blink of an eye, and the officials on the grid answered all my questions about race procedures and wished me well on my first races. Though unconventional and out of the norm for my typical TD at MidO, I nailed down a pit spot pretty quickly too. I managed the following results: P1 in Novice Formula 2 P1 in Novice LWTSB Overall 3rd in LWTSB for the weekend. I dropped 1s on my lap time between both races and consistently was banging out laps with a ~.1s variance. If I managed to perform that well in the DH, I think I could have walked away with P1 overall and maybe been knocking at the door of some expert folks. Lastly, I know I may have complained and been a bit pissy earlier, but thank you Mongo for your hard work in creating the grids. I wanted to meet you, but I know you had a job to do as well. I’m wishing everyone safe travels and I hope y’all have a great start to the week!
Just wanted to add. This is probably the best ran event since I have been attending in 15 plus years. Thanks to the Wera staff and everyone involved. Was a great time.
