I have my deposit down on the 1299S from Robby Bobby's place (D&D Cycles...and they have been great to work with so far). But the more I keep seeing the MV F3 800cc, the more I keep second guessing it. Rob's dealership has (can get) both, so either one will come from there. EDR recently posted a picture of one they built/race prepped and it weighs 353lbs while making 143hp and 63ft/lbs of torque. I LOVE my 675, it is the best handling, most nimble, most confidence inspiring bike I have ever ridden. As soon as I sit on it, it gives me this feeling of "I will go fast on this". So narrow, so much ground clearance, and that power delivery. I can't imagine that same package...with 25 more HP and 20 more ft/lbs of torque. And another main reason is because I could also race it in the B classes. So I could do like 6-7 races on the same bike (vs 5 with the Panigale). The Duc would be more challenging and a real handful, whereas I could manhandle and thrash the shit out of the MV. And FWIW, the MV is about $8k cheaper.
You already know the answer, just like I knew the answer in 1990,but still bought a gsxr1100 instead of a 750 to race.Buy the MV.
just race the grom, thats all that matters. When it comes down to brass tacks, what is more important...the ability to do 6-7 races or 5 races and spend $8k more to do those 5 races?
Chris, the EDR F3 is the 800, not the 675. Also, that bike is for sale, or it was a month or two ago at a very reasonable price. My only concern is parts from Italy and some of the issues that people have. Sprag clutch issues, tank bubbling, and some other annoying problems. It's a great bike as I t at ride that and the 899 back to back. Beautiful exhaust note, felt very fast, but at the price from stick, the 899 was a better package. Now that EDR F3800 is another story. That bike is awesome.
I know, that is the 800 I was referring to (I don't want the 675). I had thought about the parts thing. But those bikes have been out for 2-3 years now and there are a few people racing them in the US. I know AB makes bodywork for them, there are exhausts, levers, rearsets, etc available.
I agree with your first statement and the Grom will always be raced. I am not sure what "brass tacks" are. When you figure the Grom race, even with the 1299 I will still be able to do 6 races in a day. Which means the MV would give me 7-8 races. I feel like I can't go wrong with either. I just don't want to get it home and then be like "shit, I wish I woulda got...".
I think Chris is scared! The excuse/justification: The root. Joking aside. Other than the power characteristic of the V-twin, I see no reason to hesitate. And, coming of the 675cc you are familiar with the engine delivery. Do it!
I highly doubt that particular one can race in both B classes, because those numbers were on his F3 Superbike. I don't know what all he has done to it to get those numbers, but it likely isn't SS legal. But to answer your question, yes 800cc I-3's are allowed to race in B. Keep in mind that while the B classes are mostly 600s racing up, it is "designed" as the 750 class. And an 800cc I-3 is (in theory) maybe even at a slight disadvantage, to a 750cc I-4. Like I said, his is a SB. In stock form I believe the F3 800's are putting around 125-128hp to the wheel...which is right at 750 I-4 power in stock form.
Ok, but do what? I am going to get one or the other, the 1299S is already on order. My question is should I swap to the F3 800 or keep the order as is?
If you got the F3 you could race just about ALL...DAY....LONG...!!!! DO IT! Panigales are purty, the MV's are another level of bike porn though.
