Every few months UPS drops packages that aren't addressed to me. They're for an address that doesn't actually exist. Seems to be a scam. It's always car seat covers. No company name, just "Returns Department". I flag down UPS drivers, give them the package, explain that it's a non-existent address, and definitely not mine. They keep dropping them off.
The local post office routinely throws my packages and letters in the garbage, instead of putting them in my box. They claim the addressing isn't correct, and of course they are wrong. Then they go on FB and tell everyone they're overworked and under staffed.
4 hours over two days, I don’t think they got that lucky. Especially given the rest of the horseshit I had to endure to get a simple fucking answer.
From my son's experience, they are overworked and understaffed. 14 hour days for 21 straight days wears a body down.
I've been kicking around the edges of the USPS for 30+ years and that would be nigh on impossible, not to mention corralling the squirrels on capitol hill to amend the constitution.
They should just abolish the damn PO and everyone goes digital. Its just a matter of time, anyway. Let the private couriers handle the packages.
Don't get me started about not having a mailbox in front of the house and having to traverse across the neighborhood to the shares mail center they insist all new developments build for them. But I can also regale you with stories of FedExcriment just tossing shit out in the street at the gates because they couldn't be bothered to enter their gate code. But I also understand why in some cases. When the demand goes up but your pay never seems to go up with it then what incentive do you have beyond pride to do a decent job? The only one that does a decent job up here in our area is UPS. Our regular driver Steven is a solid worker. We make sure he always has something to eat and drink when he leaves our place and we supply him with dog treats for the meatheads..
I'd just like to add in here that the people I interact with daily at the shop are all good people that put in real effort and do a good job. UPS, USPS, FedEx, & DHL all have solid final handlers for us here. Amazon deliveries are prob the only exception with most of them looking like they're 18 and just want to get through the delivery process as quickly as possible sometimes making eye contact and just setting the little box down inside the edge of the door and leaving. I have experienced more background logistics issues with USPS though. We had a package come from Italy that bounced around to 6 different local offices (including our local one), just to get pushed to another wrong office. That package was in LA and had passed customs and was "in transit" for almost 3 weeks locally before they could figure out how to read the address. It was written clearly on the package as "2013 Lincoln Blvd." Someone at USPS entered it into their system as "Lincoln 2013 BL U D" and no one could figure that out. The "v" had a very distinct and obvious point to it making me wonder if it was the first time that worker had seen boulevard abbreviated... while working at USPS...
The USPS spent $100 million to build a regional hub in Charlotte NC with a state of the art system capable of identifying any motorcycle parts that I order and inserting them into the Hadron super collider, where they circle indefinitely.
