If fire starts around houses it will not matter when it rained if not at time of the fire. Houses are dry and bigger fuel than tree. Add wind and you get what is going on over there right now.
Nope, just looking at it logically. It hasn’t rained in 8 months, it’s obviously dry as hell, so using last winters storms to make a point about what’s happening now is silly. I’ll wait for the flames to go out before worrying about whose fault it is.
Isn't that area basically a dessert, anyways? And nature normally has fires that would clear things out? Then rain / landslides/ rinse / repeat ? Reminds me of that Sam Kinison bit of people trying to live in the dessert. None of this should be surprising, if you understand the area of the earth you are living in.
Is the water company and all the infrastructure owned by the state in California. I'm curious as it's not that way here (KY).
The water bills I’ve paid have always been to quasi government/city names, so I suppose it is. I know there are all kinds of agency’s that group together to provide water to different areas. Definitely not one place that we all use.
Same here in NV, community owned none profit. I am in county and have my own well, no city water here.
California wide, the building codes have gone crazy. Besides foundation and framing for earthquake, the house has to be wired for EV charger and solar. Most homeowners policies provide to replace the structure as originally built. Bringing the house up to current code is an additional coverage, typically 10% of the building coverage limit. That's probably not enough for older homes. I did some estimates for fires around Napa back around 2019, the homeowners were coming up $20-50k short.
Oh yeah, where is our resident grammar nazi? It would be good? to get his take on things. This is something related to his job, right?
Dear News Media: We DGAF about the poor "celebrities" losing their homes. There are tons more everyday folks that deserve the passion and sympathy people have for the victims of this situation. Thank you.

Oak part savannah, akshually. Maybe time for SoCal to switch back to a cowhide and beef tallow based economy.
Having lived in that area it is hard to describe how significant the destruction is. Entire parts of west LA no longer exist.
