It's about growth potential, not current market size.

Don't use that straw man crap, nobody on this forum is running a GP team in their lifetime, give me real facts why you think this isn't the right decision.

You clearly are being selective with reading. I’ve stated countless times I don’t believe it’s the wrong decision. What I do believe is neither I, nor any of the dudes on here screaming about how stupid it is not to hire Joe (or in liberty’s case, incentivize the hiring of Joe) are equipped with the information to even take that stance. There are a very select few on here who maybe have that insight and it ain’t anyone in this conversation. But when you’re talking global markets, sponsor deals (rider and team based), contract negotiations, personnel management, etc, most of us are rather uninformed of what’s going on behind the scenes, regardless of how confident we are in our speculation.

It’s ok to recognize you don’t have a well rounded enough picture to know whether something is the right call or not. But calling Trackhouse a bunch of hypocrites, saying you’ll burn the shirt you own of theirs, banking on liberty to back the hometown hero, all other logic be damned… well it comes off pretty childish, sad, and silly.

Let's recap. I said Joe would be a great move financially for the whole series, and you say no, it's personal.

So I say no, it's financial due to the marketing value, like a few others are saying in this thread. Others mentioned merch and milk advertising, I threw in TV contracts.

You say, no, Dorna doesn't care about what the broadcasters want(?), but then admit that broadcasters would pay more to have a rider from their country, and then further speculate that British broadcaster *might* be paying a lesser rate due to not having a British rider on the premier class grid.

Then you add that "Asian countries" could potentially have greater growth potential than the US due to the poors motoring culture (yet ignore that Taka is already a Japanese rider on a satellite team), and the whole Japanese imperialism thing where other countries in Asia don't give fuckall about Japan because of it.

Then ignore the most apparent reason for an old population with low retention, which is they are not recruiting new viewers.

Then throw out some straw man about running my own GP team.

Then try to deflect entirely and say nobody knows, except that you are telling everyone they're wrong.

Did I get it all? Just trying to follow along, my head is spinning.

Read today that Ogura was a done deal to trackhouse, BUT heard the JR16 is in discussions for second Pramac seat. That would be awesome.

I read the series has a long and tenured fan base, US rounds are already performing well, and Ape is among the less supported brands. So new fans are an issue already, US does well in terms of attendance and no one really cares for Ape..... Joe R OR Ogura wont do much to gain fans bc gaining fans is damn near impossible already...

Im with you, this "A US Rider" will grow wealth and sponsor and eyeballs seems like some pie in the sky maybe maybe maybe situation.

Someone, maybe you, asked about Joe R and CoTa in terms of fan group/ section. Joe is hardly a fan favorite among US peeeps (imo). People didnt even know who was waving last time at Cota when he applauded the fans.

what kind of horseshit is this?!?

I only got as far as US is well attended… what the actual fuck?!?

I know I’ve been around awhile but if you’re going to spew ignorance at least have the respect not to do it here where the collected memories easily extends to three US GPs a year that all were better than the last decade with 92k on race day alone at its height at Indy…

    for fucks sake

...just to add to the Trackhouse / Joe perspective...

I feel like the ones not in support (or against) this happening are also failing to realize Trackhouse is a new American team to the series that is also coming in just as Liberty Media is coming in as well. I'm not pushing "just" the All American theme, but the fact that Trackhouse and Liberty Media seem to understand marketing WITHIN the US better than existing satellite teams and Dorna.

That is to say if all that was done is Joe gets on Trackhouse and nothing else changes at all with regard to how marketing is handled both from the team and the series ownership, then yes, it wouldn't press the gas on the American marketing effort. I do believe both Trackhouse and Liberty wouldn't just sit still if that opportunity arises.

This presumed marketing push is also the reason why I feel an Aprilia factory team (even if it is run by an outside team effort) running in MotoAmerica SUPERBIKE and partnered with Trackhouse (they don't need to own and run the team, but they do need to be onboard for partnership / marketing / etc), could be the missing puzzle piece for the marketing synergy between Americans / motorcycles / Trackhouse / Joe / etc. This would also obviously benefit our domestic series to have a MotoGP team directly linked to a MotoAmerica team. It doesn't need to allude to being a feeder team at all, just that it connects the brand, team, America all together.

Add to that I had recently found out that the RSV4 1100 factory "could" be homologated into MotoAmerica with some limitations on their hp / ECU as is done in Canadian Superbike (but I heard MA doesn't want to allow it) means the door is already cracked open and could potentially be accepted with the connection to Trackhouse.

Haha youve hipped me to the massive decline in attendance before and I very much appreciate your perspective and truth on that. I took that from their materials. "in the US, where 86% have attended COTA."

but hey it was a "fan survey" after all
