Today was the first I read his name in the context of 2025 promotions. I vaguely remember him coming up in silly season a couple of years ago.

    I know right! :D

In the beginning of this discussion I read most of the posts but after a while I just scrolled through and half assed read them with my eyes going

It’s turned into one huge purse fight I no longer have an interest in watching. ;)

Sounds like the same person writing a current V.P.'s resume.

His name came up initially when Ogura was struggling longer than expected last year from his pre-season crash (to his wrist?).

I have to admit when I heard Ogura was all but confirmed it took a lot of the enthusiasm for watching this weekend away. I know I should not care, but I do feel a kinship with a North American rider / Underdog.:flag: Seeing that light go out potentially for many more years really kicked me in the nuts. I still love the racing. The riders etc. But definitely felt it.

Same for WSBK. When GG looked like he was going to win any day now I was overflowing with enthusiasm. If it was not for the otherworldly riding by TR I probably would not have renewed my subscription.

FTR I think there are riders with more on the resume than Joe. Though, I have heard many things about the problems at Italtrans etc. But the sport would definitely be better having the young, good looking US rider in it. Right now it is really the Spanish/ Italian and friends World Championship!;)

It's not like nationality bias hasn't been affecting who gets a ride all along, so why not have a preference to put an American in a seat? How many Brits have been in the top class when there were way better choices at the time? How long did Bradl hold onto his seat when there were a plethora of better choices? I don't think that signing Joe is necessarily going to grow the North American market, but maybe Liberty and Dorna would like it to not shrink FURTHER. We'd like to think that racing is a meritocracy, but with the exception of the very top talents, it's about marketability more than anything. Sometimes those go hand in hand, like Marquez. Other times....see Nakagami.

Correct. And that's how you get to where F1 is today. When a passport and potential sponsorship dollars trump talent you end up with shit racing. Remember the "Alien" era? None of em were there because of their passports or buying their seat. They kicked ass on their way to the top.

You should try watching some F1 first. Your comment makes me wonder how much you know about it. The quality of the racing can be blamed entirely on the technical rules and the amount of money and resources it takes for a team to be competitive. F2 is a better show, and it certainly is not because the drivers are better.

Unless you remove a Bagnaia, a Martin or a Marquez for every Roberts you add to the show, it's not going to have much of an impact on the quality of the racing for the top positions. And so far, unless I missed some, no one has suggested that Roberts would be challenging at the front.

The idea is to give American viewers who are not hardcore fans someone to cheer for an feel patriotic about. Casual fans probably have more of an incentive to tune in every week and show up at their home Grand Prix if they have an emotional attachment to it. People show up and cheer for their countrymen in 15th place as loud as they cheer for the biggest stars in the show.

If you're a team wrapping yourself in the American flag, I doubt as to how you pass up on the opportunity to put a qualified American one of your bikes.

I'm not saying it's the best way. I find F1 boring as hell, so I agree with the point. Unfortunately, F1 has grown from a financial standpoint, and in the end these are businesses. Will people stop watching if the racing becomes boring? Likely, and then they'll either adjust to market conditions, or go out of business. As for the American pipeline, we don't have the structure to grow aliens anymore.

Below excerpt from MotoMatters piece on Diggia signing with VR46:
Fabio Di Giannantonio Confirmed With Factory Bike At VR46 Through 2026 | MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks

"The signing of Di Giannantonio brings the number of seats filled for 2025 to 17. Of the five seats left open, there are few real question marks. Franco Morbidelli is expected to move to VR46 on a GP24 alongside Di Giannantonio, which would put Fermin Aldeguer on the second Gresini Ducati seat alongside Alex Marquez.

Ai Ogura is expected to join Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse Aprilia, while Miguel Oliveira will move to the Pramac Yamaha squad. The second Pramac Yamaha seat is believed to be open, though the candidates are all Moto2 riders. And Somkiat Chantra is believed to have been offered the Idemitsu LCR Honda ride, with the fate of Takaaki Nakagami hanging on Chantra's decision.

We are likely to see more official announcements over the next week or two. The entire grid should be completed by the time we leave Europe for the flyaway races after Misano 2."

Hey Toe, it’s been reported that BMW just bought all of the data from Suzuki from their last year in MotoGp, rumored to be in order to hit the ground running for an entry into motogp in 2027 when the regulations change. If BMW builds their own version of a Suzuki using their data, does that qualify as BNG? Asking for a friend.
