Fun little update here. day 2 of the truck get a engine light. Was a software update . No big whatever Day 3 - squeaking and stuff around the belts and alternator. I send dealer a video and they ignore me. I go driving now a month or two, I’m busy etc and will deal with the squeaking later. I get a low oil level warning. I had to add 3 qts of oil to top it off and it was about 2800 miles since oil change. I go to the dealer and they try to not fix the belt and pulley that was messed up causing the squeaking but I was like no fucking way when I told you 3 days after and yall didn’t do shit. They fixed it for free. Now I’m on an oil consumption program where I have to go back at 2k and they will see what it’s doing. The service manger asked what I did for a living… I was like I drive to the airport and park it for 3 days at a time. Well the dude before me apparently idled the truck for a long time and it has the equivalent of 94,000 miles according the GM service. The Odometer says 70k. I do have the dealer warranty which I normally don’t do but I told the salesman this is bs, y’all talked up how yall only take in good used cars and blah blah. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet but start working on some numbers to get rid of this thing. I have the president of the entire auto groups number it haven’t seen him in 8 years and wouldn’t know me from Adam anymore but he knows my old boss but it might be time for a call
Always do tires first if you have a vibration. In Moochigan, during the winter months it's not uncommon overnight for snow to melt, then re freeze inside the wheel, and you get a shaking from hell the next day. Happens to my wife's explorer damn near every winter the way the melt water runs off of it.
That's something I've never experienced, nor heard of my family experiencing that still lives there. That must have been a fun one to figure out?
It's sad that in this day and age you have to resort to such tactics. Just do things right the first time. Sadly, of all places, I had my first very bad experience at Discount Tire. So bad I called the regional rep in Alpharetta. Since that person ignored me, I'll reach out to their corporate office in AZ. After 20 years of buying tires from them, it may be time for a change.
yeah I kept giving them chances to offer any sort of hint of talk of “let’s make sure you are taken care of” got none of that
I've had good experiences with Discount tire and Americas Tire (same company) and recommended many people to that place. I like how they will patch any tire for free as a way to get you in the door to buy tires from them later. It has worked with me, I've been using them for at least 30 years. They now own Tire Rack too, so you can get the same prices with them as you would get with Tire Rack. I think sometimes it has to go up the ladder. I always strive to treat customers the way I want to be treated, but when that means a good chunk of money is coming out of my pocket, my employees still need to escalate to me, and sometimes they don't. I preach to run this place like it is their own company and their own money, so sometimes they get to tight on the wrong things, IMO. More often, they are loose on things they shouldn't be, like price checking multiple sources for parts, since that takes work, and they would rather take the easy way out. I get it, it is a pain for me too, but I do it.
I did get a callback from the store directly who resolved part of the issue. Still very upset about the situation. I still have another option available (of the Atomic type) that I may use. Gonna give myself 24 hrs to think about it first. Rob, FYI, the America's Tire store on Topanga Canyon Blvd. across the street from the Topanga Mall is where a house was once located - a house I lived in the mid 60's (here's a shoutout to my fellow peeps from Hamlin Street Elementary School). There is a giant advertising sign right in front of it. I still can recall the day when a truck with a giant post hole digger dug the holes. There is an alley behind the store - that is how you would access the houses on the street, as the only access from streetside was via sidewalk. Down a few doors was a fierce dog. He bit my dad when he rode his YG-1 Yamaha, bit my brother and I when we rode our bicycles, and tried to attack my mom when she was driving our 1965 Rambler sedan.
