What is the gas mileage on those? I may buy a motorhome and leave it at my parents to go drag racing. A few I’ve read about have the 7.3 gas, but haven’t called on any yet to see if it is above or below 8.
Don't let it be painful, getting old is better than the alternative, lol. It'll be a great day for you. Lot of parents and/or children never live to see that day. I just bought my 17 y/o her first car and the sheer joy that beamed from her that day is worth more than anything.
I tend to get 16 running around empty, but my driving is mostly highway & rural roads. Stop and go driving in town kills the mileage. I get 8 towing a boat that weighs 11-12k and grabs a lot of air and 10-11 towing my flatbed with my tractor on it that's probly 11k-ish(haven't scaled it).
I've always assumed the idea behind a big gasser like this is they're a bit of a known quantity. Sure it'll guzzle fuel, but that's it. You're not gonna suddnely need an EGR cooler, or a DEF level sensor, or have some ridiculous Nox sensors disable the truck and make it refuse to start. Not to mention it's something like $8k cheaper than the 6.7Diesel option anyway right? The fuel mileage almost don't matter at that point. But I'll say, the more I look at new(er) stuff I'm just astonished at the costs. I can't imagine coming up with $65-75k for a new truck. Yikes. Hope my old crap outlives me. I couldn't afford anything else anymore it seems.
I have new Tahoes at work with the 5.3 and granted they idle a lot but each one has seen a new motor before 5 thousand miles one at 1100 miles. They keep warping crankshafts and stuck lifters
I remember sitting on my dads lap in his '78 Ford, 302, 3 on the tree goin' fishin' on Sunday mornings. I'd steer and shift while he did the pedals. It gave pops a free hand to drink his PBR as well. Needless to say, my first car at 16 (1980 Pinto) was a stick shift.
At those mileages it has to be a quality control issue with either machining or assembly. What plants were they assembled at? My wife and I both have 24 Silverados, hers a 1500 and mine a 2500. Both on their third oil change with no sign of issues after cutting the filters and inspecting…
If I didn’t have history with the dealership I’d gone with a tundra but was able to make this 2020 work and I’ve wanted a Chevy for awhile. This truck is too nice, gotta get it to the farm and scratched up. Ordering chick fil a through Apple car play is one of the crazier things I’ve seen
Nice truck, now find someone near you that sprays fluid film, or woolwax, in your area, (if you dont want to do it yourself) and get it coated underneath, and the bottoms of doors, tail gate, rockers, hood perimeter, up over the box sides. It's not that much, and it will help the truck last way longer. DO NOT TAKE IT TO ZIEBART! Way different stuff that hides rust, until it is way too late. Ski
There would be a solid argument for that but each motor was fixed at the dealer and a few of them (at least 3) took a shit again so far. I’m a Chevy guy too I just bought a new Corvette so it hurts my heart a bit
Just keep an eye on the plastic cooling system parts... like the radiator tanks & connectors. My work 2020 has ~9700 hours on it... keep the oil changes frequent. A couple of coworkers were not as diligent on OCIs and they have had lifter problems. I usually bring mine in when its 50% on the oil life... longer than that it starts to consume oil. We are directed to wait until 20% by fleet management... Im a civil disobediant!
yeah after this thread im going to definitely change the oil more and look into some of the other preventative stuff
So, just talked to my buddy that wanted to buy a late model F150 with the 5.0 L coyote. He sure stepped in it. (I'm a chevy guy) So, it's used 2018+year and he is trucking down the highway at 70ish mph and boom the tranny drops into 2nd or 1st gear. For the life of me I don't know how this isn't a major recall. He dropped the pan and flushed the tranny. Evidently fixed it with some after market dorman part only to have it happen 11 again months later Suposedly metal accumulates on the something on the shift tang (electronic) and it mistakenly thinks your downshifting. I guess ferd now has engineered a cover for those tangs to prevent metal accumulation.
Nope, I'm fully aware that Chevy/GMC engineers are making terrible innovation decisions as of late and i have no desire to be a part of their failures (by buying a new one) without long term warranty protection. I actually sent my ECM to a jailbreak specialist and had him disable the "reduced engine power" function as well as other stupid service bulletins incorporated for safety. Also, no more speed governor. It's interesting enough though...what i see in Texas is a sea of the 2007.5-2013 (both truck HD and non-HD) still on the road. 2014-2019 versions not as much and 2020-24 series even less.
