Thanks for opening yourself up to these questions and taking the time To answer. As a dad that has put a deposit down on one, when could you speculate we will receive them? I was originally told end of Feb 2025. Is this still the eta?
That's exactly why we did it that way. There's some good incentives for those looking for some new kit, or those who want to chase contingency; but if they're already supported or have a contract, the series parameters won't interfere with that. I am looking for a good boot partner though. Just throwing that out into the universe.
Yup. It will be on display. Joe and I will be there. I'm not sure if Markus Krämer is coming over or not from Germany. His schedule just got busy around that week, but that was the original plan.
We don't have a comparison to a true Moto3 bike, like what you would see in the Red Bull KTM Ajo Team. We haven't even been on the same tracks as them yet, and honestly, this weekend at COTA isn't going to be the hottest lap and a bad comparison as well - our test rider only has a handful of laps there. Against the KTM RC4 R, we have a good comparison on times and did a back-to-back. That bike is obviously a lot easier to ride through the turns, but it gives up a bit of grunt. The extra aero helps with top speed, so that's more of a wash. Between the two, I'd say it's going to depend on which track we're talking about, but keep in mind that's with the first revision prototype. The second revision prototype should be hit track soon, and I think we're going to see some big steps there. When the production bikes land in February, I would expect our bike to be a second or two slower around Jerez compared to a Red Bull Rookie Cup bike, but again I don't have hard data there.
We're having that debate right now. I think we're going to land on presets, but that's not 100%. The goal is to introduce electronics to these riders and start getting them comfortable with making those kind of changes. That's one of the advantages our platform has over the others, and with where the sport is headed, knowing how to set up electronics is going to be a bigger factor in rider development.
Shahin was always in charge of stickers. I think Krämer Joe is more into cat treats. But, anything could happen.
Yeah, it should fit on all existing Krämer models. No idea on price and availability yet, but should be "soonish". Murmurs of a 450cc bike are true. This project started as a 450 bike, and then when we started to talking to MotoAmerica, they said they wanted the 350cc motor because its character was more like the Moto3 engine. We've done some 450cc testing, and the motor vibrates...a lot. We have several affectionate names for that bike, and none of them are repeatable in mixed company. Right now, we're not willing to put our name on a product like that, so we have to do some more advanced testing to isolate out the revs from the rider. Tons of clubs have provisions for 450cc bike with race-only chassis because of supermotos, so that's the target we've been chasing.
February 2025 is the official line. Everyone at the factory understands how hard that deadline has to be for teams to be ready for Round 1.
It's like we planned that. Krämer Joe has been asking for a 450 bike for a long time, and when I joined the company, I put it on the product road map. I think riders will be surprised at how close it will be in performance to the 350, but we also stand that there's a "no replacement for displacement" mentality on these sorts of things. Like I said before, we've tested it. It's going to take more work than we thought to get it right, so my hopes of an April unveiling of a APX-450R are dying a slow death right now, but we're still working on it.
The Mectronik MKE7 is an incredibly capable ECM that can offer a formidable amount of granularity in stock form. On the note of getting these riders comfortable with electronics changes through stepped presets, and the capabilities of the ECM, what support or resources do Kramer plan to provide to guide teams in the care and feeding of their new race bike? I can imagine a lot of Twins Cup/Ohvale Mini GP riders/families purchasing the APX-350 MA and coming face to face with a modern race ECM platform for the first time.
Feeding discussion here with an example dyno plot of the 350 motor, taken at the rear wheel... There's a nice surfable torque wave available. Obviously the 450's would be preferable, shaking aside. -T
