Just going off Greg's posts on twit-tubes, but it says the deal is confirmed. Also mentions a 2-rider team. Curious who the other rider will be?
EVO makes it affordable, so why not go wsbk racing? Reports are saying Corser will be running a BMW team as well which sounds like it is directly related to the EVO rules.
Isn't EVO in 2015 with 2014 still a bit open (two classes on the grid)? Gee-off May? Hmmm, wouldn't be my first choice but that's cool.
Talked to Greg at AIMe today and AMA is hurting. Saw The Worm there too and he is unsure what next year holds. Decent show, now that Indy show is over and it appears no one will be going to Chicago the Orlando show will grow. They had the demo trucks over by the hilton next to CC and even had some amphibious thing trolling the ponds too. EBR booth was huge
My understanding is the "Evo" class will be the support class to WSBK in '14 BUT WSBK rules will also start making their may to a more stock spec in '14 as well. 2015 will be the all "Evo" year when the top class is much more restricted than currently and the support class is further restricted than the premiere class. Think along the lines of BSB Superbike and Superstock 1000s. I think this is a great move by Dorna to make the series more approachable. I think those complaining saying they won't watch the racing if it isn't full-blown superbikes are missing the point... and likely missing the fact that the economy isn't in the same place as it once was.
I think the new "EVO" rules, combined with the AMA's struggles lately, could help cannibalize some teams away from AMA and into WSB.
This is true, great bike porn isn't quite tantamount to great racing, but it sure is a nice draw to get a glimpse at some unobtanium. But I can certainly live without at the end of the day.
I'm sure tons of AMA teams are dying to travel all over europe. These are the same teams that don't like travelling across the country let alone the world. Remind me again how far back WSBK pays prize money? How about tire and other contingency money?
Teams all receive money from Dorna to offset their costs as a series should be run. That is a big reason for the large sanctioning fees they charge.
They do, but you get more money for your position in the previous year's championship. First year teams and slow teams have to come up with more of the 'travel' money. You can buy the position and resulting travel bonus of a team that folds in the off season. This was the InFront method. Dorna will undoubtedly make it more interesting and unpredictable.
