Oh, so it has been a huge success then? It has not caused accidents and fatalities?

    It's evil because it's Musk's.
Had he done this 6-7 years ago, it would have been the greatest thing mankind could ever see.

Btw Elon musk has been warning about the danger of AI for a really fucking long time. His decision to jump into the foray of AGI is to try and influence its human alignment.

His decision to jump in is to try and get some money while it's hot.

Call me naive, but I get the impression that Musk is on a mission lately to expose the BS in institutional America and get to the bottom line truth of things. I dig it.

I suspect that he's going to end up with a "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly" of his own sooner than later.

I'm sure it will be purely an accident, though.

We have a real problem with "science" having a huge lack
of oversight and control. Just because something can be done
doesn't mean it should be done. We aren't Gods yet and shouldn't
    act as though we are.

I wouldn't be so quick to rush to judgement on the merits of this line of research. The ability to interface computer technology with living brain tissue could potentially make it possible for blind people to see, for paralyzed people to walk and for amputees to have truly functional limbs. It would only be a short step between that and the obvious next step of being able to access all of the world's knowledge (via the Internet) through a device interfaced with one's brain, suddenly turning the entire global population of humanity into super geniuses.

Might even be a cure for the heartbreak of psoriasis.

It sure would have been nice to communicate with my Mom while she sat wasting away in a wheelchair for the last 6 years of her life locked in, unable to communicate, or care for herself post stroke. She was still IN there, you could tell it in her eyes.

It would be nice to use this kind of technology to help cure things like that, but I have zero faith in humanity to use things like this for good, instead of evil.

As long as Big Pharma is involved in the research, it will all be about how to make someone feel better and/or rely on it. There will be zero cures for anything with them involved.

Life-like 3d porn is the real answer.

Mind boggling how we (humans) constantly create things to make ourselves obsolete. On my team con call a few weeks ago I told everyone that half of us would lose our jobs to AI within a few years. My boss started scrambling and saying that's not true, but never bothered to further discuss it. I've started digging into it so I can be the team SME on how to use it within our section of IT. Adapt or fade into irrelevance.
