You need to read RRW BSB vs. AMA article. According to one of the BSB gurus the big teams are still spending big money on technical analysis. Weird but true.

  2. You lost me at "need to read". :D

5 sets of wheels per rider?? why? Seems excessive.

Let's see if I can make a stab here...I'm sure Chip will correct if I'm wrong.

    1 - On the bike
2 - Setup with same tires as what is on the bike
    3 - Different compound tire
    4 - Rain tires
    5 - Spare?

I may get shot saying this.

Thats why I hardly watch the gp and mostly watch the 2 and 3 races. gp is impressive no doubt, but boring.

Why is SuperCross so popular? Is it not as financially challenged as road racing? They seem to get tons of sponsorship and the benefits that follow...

It's done mostly in football arenas. Football is popular for some reason.

SX you can see the whole track. You get more bang for the buck but the series is marketed better. When you are in a stadium you can afford to sell those cheap seats ($10) and can sell out.

    Tunersricebowl Fog, onward through.

AND you get to breathe the exhaust fumes...not as cool as back in the two smoke days, but you got to get your airborn poisons where you can.

I'm thinking it has something to do with being able to pack 40,000 people into a stadium and them be able to sit down, drink beer and see all the action from a single viewing position.

    ^ good post
and still end up with a money pit and no gains out of it.

No wonder BSB in 2012 made major attempts to keeping the cost down and field competitive.
