It's probably the most fun you can have on a snowboard. There is something about earning your turns that's just so rewarding. Add in 90% of your turns will be in powder and its Priceless. As someone who has bought multiple setups because I tried to be cheap, don't. Good bindings and board are worth the money. Bindings are more important than the board it seems. I ended up with a pair of Spark R&D and they were a game changer for me. The other sets mounting systems were all inferior to the Spark setup.
Jelly. One other benefit IMO of the foam injected (or cork injected zipfit type) is that I can run my buckles a bit lighter.
I just landed this morning and have been trying to talk myself out of riding tomorrow to not tire myself out for the class this weekend but I don't think I'm gonna be able to. Are you around here?
I'm really looking forward to it... I love mountain biking for similar reasons so I think it'll be right up my alley. I ordered a combo from Stranda that came with Plum bindings that seem decent but we'll see how they work in use.
I've got 6" freshly fresh at the house and it's still coming down. By the time this is over Sunday afternoon, Alta will likely have over 4 feet of fresh.
Go riding tomorrow. The Avy classes are a ton of standing around and very little actual exercise. Be aware, canyon traffic is going to SUCK in ways you can’t imagine the next couple of days Yup. I’m in Salt Lake.
Traffic up the Cottonwoods is going to be terrible tomorrow for sure. They will be blasting overnight, so cars will be lining up very early morning for when the roads open around 8:30.
yup. @badmoon692008 If you Instagram or twitter, check @udotcottonwoods and @utavy for canyon conditions
Super jealous of you folks in SLC. My favorite skiing has been up in Little Cottonwood. Had the opportunity to ski Catherine's Bowl at Alta my last time there. Enjoy all that light fluffy powder! Thanks for the heads-up on TKR. I'm in pretty decent shape presently (gravel and MTB racing), but planning on pre-habbing myself into really good shape before the surgeries in September. If anything, it certainly won't do any harm.
My daughter and her husband flew into SLC last night with two other couples to go skiing. Sounds like they lucked into a good weekend.
Just got in from skiing at Elk Mountain this am. It was warmish yesterday so the snow softened up and refroze last night after they groomed the slope. The hardest cordoray I've ever seen. Luckily I took my GS race skis and man can these puppies fly. I don't race anymore but once in while it's nice let them go a bit...Only got one warning from a patrol...just kidding, they couldn't catch me.
Do it. I usually wear my dirt bike body armor under my parka. I can't describe how nice it is to go from the panic feeling of a fall that turns into a soft, protected landing. I f'd up and didn't bring it to Vermont in December and only had my back protector on. Wouldn't you know I catch an edge dropping down a steep lift exit and crack a rib. Still hurts to breath.
I think I recracked mine today coughing. Fucker hurts. I didn’t think I broke it but bruised a muscle in my chest. Now I’m thinking I cracked it. Can’t wait till next year. lol.
I still wear armor when possible. Hip, Knee, and a Astars Sequence long sleeve upper. I don't need it often, but I can think of a couple times in the past 8 years when it's saved my butt. As an added bonus, it's fairly comfortable, and the hollow armor creates a nice air pocket under my 3L shell that makes temp and sweat regulation easy.
