Gotcha I thought the points were spread out more fire the top positions. So one bad start could shake it up.

The more I've read about the situation, I'm coming around to why he might do so. He has been accepting a lower salary figure from Star Yamaha, but with solid win bonus these last couple years, and he has decided he wants to do a couple more SX seasons. While Star is certainly willing to let him dictate what he will race, they don't have the money he is looking for. He's looking to pad the bank account, and the Troy Lee team with Ducati have the big backing to back a dump truck up to his bank.
The bike is apparently already pretty good, and while his riding style is so intense that it doesn't really carry over to very many, they will learn a ton about how much abuse it can take and how to get it working in SX with his input.
They just have to take off the hydro clutch and give him a cable clutch.
He gets to keep riding on his terms, collects a ton of money, and has a bit of a built in excuse if he isn't at the pointy end straight away.
I gotta respect him for it. I figured he would want to stick to what he knows for another title push, but getting back with the Troy Lee guys, no real expectations, big money. He's set to have a fun couple years in his terms, with the whole team behind him.

I'm not sure how many "KTM"s we will see next year. Doubtful that Rockstar will keep both Gas Gas and Husqvarna, they both only have one rider on an oddly split team, so do they combine to a single brand? Does KTM drop to a single bike?
Sounds more like Sexton is headed for the wrong team at Kawasaki, maybe he will wait for Tomac to ink and take the other Yamaha spot.
Barcia to the new 450 Triumph for a season to give input to them? Anderson to a Club MX Yamaha?
    Roczen to a KTM?

Don't know, will get really interesting here in a couple months.

Tomac on Ducati would be so absurd to see. I'm sure Ducati wouldn't have a problem throwing on a cable clutch if it's what he needs.

The Desmo is probably the only bike that has a chance of out-motoring the YZ.

Dunlop features Eli on the Yamaha in its latest GeoMax tire ads. You can always hear the stadium crowd cheering whenever Eli made a pass at the races he ran this season. He's likely got the largest fan base of any active rider this season. The only rider to beat Jett in a straight-up battle for a while now. He's going to be a marketing giant for whoever he ends up signing with in 2026. I believe it's a big mistake for Yamaha to let him go, when they've experienced so much success together. I don't see CW, CS, KR, AP and JC racing for the outdoor series title once Eli, Jett and Hunter are healthy again.

I've got to listen to Troy Lee on Gypsy Tales today.

I also think Ducati will be pushing the electronics and suspension R & D more than Yamaha has seemed to. They didn't build a MX bike to be an also-ran, they will be working towards winning.

Seewer put it on the box last week in MXGP I believe and their starts have been amazing since their debuted for the most part.

Tomac may be in a Marquez-like situation where he will need an equipment edge to beat Jett across an entire series.

I'll be impressed when it drops down for the starts and then pops up before turn 1.

This weekend will be interesting, I think the season now boils down to 4 riders,
    1) Kenny
    2) AP
    3) Justin Cooper
    4) Mookie

Where they finish could really dictate who wins the championship. Web knows what he needs to do, and so does Sexton. It's the other guys riding for race wins that can change the game. Kenny with no team mate in the fight could be the ultimate spoiler

Guessing he looked at the points, his injuries, and future, and said, "It is 50 points, I am currently in 3rd even if one of the other guys finishes 1st in both, no one can catch me in 3rd, worst I will finish is 3rd, and retain that bonus from my sponsor contract. Let's start getting things fixed, and healing for the SMX playoffs, where I can really make some bank."

I actually told my wife when he was injured, that was what he should do, when the points didnt matter anymore. Ski

A lot of these guys with injuries and/or completely out of the title chase are going to keep sitting out the last few SX races unless something changes now that the season is so long. Time to heal up a bit and train for MX, which starts in a few weeks. Add that to looking at new contracts and likely to be moving teams, why put it on the line and risk more injury for a team you're not going to be with next season and a points chase you aren't in?

It's a long year of abuse for SX/MX/SMX.

In reality, the most money is in SX and the SMX playoffs. They dont make as much money for outdoor MX, hence why many opt for SX contracts only. However, with the new SX, MX, AND SMX Playoff formats combining points for seeding, You need to accumulate as many points as possible for higher seeding in the playoff rounds, so you dont have to race any of the Prelims/LCQ's to get in to those 3 races. 5.5 Million total payout is on the line for 3 races.
