Oh I was affected by obama care big time. Our income had a one time big spike in 2013 due to my wife selling a large amount of stock options accumulated over her career.
Obama care added an additional .09% tax on top of the 1.45% medicare tax. That's 2.35% on income over 250K and it's uncapped.
Our additional medicare tax was more than most peoples' annual income.

That's why I find discussions on healthcare costs interesting. It's not that I'm a fan of obama care. I'm all for healthcare reform and due to partisan bullshit we now have obama care. If not for the political BS we might actually have a system that works for everyone.

As for my health insurance plan. It will all go to shit when the market goes south.

As long as you look to DC for the fix or 'reform' you will be screwed. They are the problem not the solution. If the feds got 100% out of providing it things would improve. They should regulate for safety which has zero to due with insurance.

Of course they will give up the power only at gunpoint I fear.

This is the real issue. The fact they removed your choice....no, not only that, but they removed your choice and gave you something worse....they destroyed your choice in order to artificially create a solution for others. That is not progress.

No, but it is socialism. It's why we can't have nice things anymore.

    It's not socialism either.

It's an attempt to move towards universal healthcare that was executed very poorly.

It's a step towards more government control. Some people like that.

A friend of mine just posted his penalty from the IRS for not having HI. His bill went from $400 to $1400 for less care. Indiana before you ask.
    He now owes $2300.

They called it his part of "shared responsibility". Just that phrase makes my teeth grind. And that sums it up. Socialism at its finest. It's not his responsibility to find the most competitive source for HI. It's not his responsibility to decide what risk he is willing to take. It is his responsibility to be part of the masses and do what his government deems " responsible".

And the fines climb each year that you don't have insurance or the appropriate amounts.

My monthly payment stayed about the same but my plan went to shit. $2500 deductible now versus no deductible before. Forty and fifty dollar copays after that with a crappy prescription plan. Thanks Obamatard.

We are finding less in the Public Marketplace...so far we have had two providers..."Stop offering Health Care Coverage".

Many of my friends, who are also SelfEmployed are in the same boat..bailing water while Washington drill more holes in the hull, "Oh we see you standing on the shore in the distance, waving for us to swim to your Utopia...Do you see us "Saluting" you...Yes that is the MiddleFinger"

"Live Free or Die, Well Fuck it, I am gonna Die Anyway".

Seeing the same thing. Between insurance and monthly tax payments, it's equal to about two weeks of salary payments that I was paying myself. This is pathetic.

At this point I damned well couldn't much advise anyone to go the self employed route as we sure seem to be taking the brunt of this crap.

Wouldn't be great if we all could live our lives and not be burdened by our peoples' choices.
Reality is there will always be some that won't put aside enough money to pay for their own healthcare when things go bad so the risk they assume becomes other peoples' burden.
Easy to say that's OK it's my choice and I'll just die or I'll let my child die if they get sick but when that actually happens shit gets real.

There's a reason an element of socialism exists in all modern societies.

So bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator 'for our own good'... got it.

Unless you're a political elite of course, then the rules dont apply.

Recognizing an element of socialism in modern society does not mean "bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator"

Shouldn't you be writing a letter to you governor?

It may not mean that but it is definitely what the "Affordable" Care Act is doing. People should get basic health care but those of us who are paying should get better care than those who are freeriding. This "some people pay but you all get the same care" bullshit is a bit too socialist for my liking.

Amazing how you ignore reality. The people who use the ER do so because it is free. Given the choice between a doctor who they can't find and who would demand a co-pay upfront if he was actually willing to take them, or an ER that can't turn them away, they use the ER.
They are doing it now, and will continue to do so. The shortage of doctors is real and it won't disappear anyway, so I don't know who you think all these people are going to be seeing for their checkups which will supposedly ensure that all these people suddenly adopt healthy lifestyles.
And you want to blame the hospitals that are forced by law to take these patients.
The solution, no doubt, is to force doctors to take on more patients.

Ours is going up again. I believe it'll be about 50% more than our house payment every month. $3500 deductible - per person since it's cheaper for us split up than together.

I'm going to look into the penalties etc... of just dropping mine. We can't afford it but Evelyne has to have it. Once medicare kicks in for her I'll look at getting it again. I guess another option would be to have her fire me and see what the deal with that is. Going to be fucked up if I can't afford to work because of health insurance costs.

A decision like that was not even remotely necessary before our current president sold it lock stock and barrel to the insurance companies.

What can you tell me I don't know about this subject??
Our Daughter had a Brain Tumor when she was 4...she is now about to be 21...been there done that, paid the payments for MRI's x CT's x Treatments x Surgery.. All good Now...but yeah, it gets Real in about 10seconds.

BUT The Affordable Care Act isn't going to make it better...I would bet money that if it happened to me now...in 6 months I would be living in a cardboard box down by the river...

We had Great Insurance back then..we could afford the deductibles and pay the CoPays, now...not so much.

Oh and we had Twin Sons who raced MX and One who RoadRaced alittle..been to the ER a few times....again..NOW, I would be really Scared to allow them to Race..or Play Sports.

Shit, I tore my Rotator Cuff out and didn't go because of the $7500 ded.
