I got one out back of my house, and from the sound of it, it has to weight at least a metric ton. Only hoots between 3-5am though, when everything else is dead quiet beCAUSE WE ARE ALL ASLEEP, MR OWL!!
Out jogging at the crack of dawn this morning about 0530 and the owls were making a racket in the woods. Love them guys..
And an indication why that video is kind of fucked-up. The owl can track on the nest because of the backlighting being used for the camera.
And studies have shown a barn owl, can catch a mouse in a completely dark room. Yes I know that wasn't a barn owl, but any moon would have made it possible for the owl do to that capture.
We have one in the woods behind our house. Caught only a few glimpses, but he sounds kinda like an air impact wrench.
But also would have allowed for better situational awareness by the predated. Probably still hung out, but that camera was like a search light.
I put some owl sounds I recorded last summer in the Youtube thread. It's a juvenile barred owl and its parents.
Had a really pretty big one hanging out in the backyard last week. Also have a hawk that lives around here. And then there are the turkeys - those mofos are the funniest things ever when they fly. They run into the tree branches and sound like a semi truck crashing into the woods
