You are right Jim, I must have woken up before I got to that.....cuz we all know it was there if they were fantasy interviewing Sean. :D

Where do you think this is headed? Could the county retain it (NOT lease it) and just hire someone to run it? ....basically "breaking even"?....or lease it for $0?

Obviously just throwing things out here......I am not informed at all on owning or running a racetrack.

Before going on Medicare, social security and Cialis I logged 4300 miles at Miller. Best days of my life. Thank you Larry.

If anyone can kick this can down the road its Trackstar. That guy has balls the size of an Arai XL lid.

Shit like this makes me glad I bailed on the cult state and moved to Colorado.

Like I've been saying, they're not tearing down the buildings and pulling up pavement, it'll be open one way or another.

There are plenty of groups wanting to run the place. Everything from a handful of local amateurs (no way) to many other track operators, large national organizations.
I still think the initial Lucas deal was brushed side too quickly, but we will see what shakes out.
The county officials know what they have, they have consultants helping them sift through the whos, whys, whats.
But as of right now the only thing that is a "known" is that it will operate next year. The rest is not decided, probably won't be until late summer.

I can't see Lucas the company running a track. The only thing other than the Lucas Oil Products they own is MavTV and the race teams. Pretty sure the series with their name are sponsorship deals but I could be off on that.

Somebody promised a "sliver bullet" to fix everything and the county just might be a little smarter then the dumb hicks some people might make them out to be.

    My take.

I'm just helping organize the game. My kicking leg isnt strong enough to play with these boys. I appreciate the compliment though and apologize for the day you had to see my balls. That had to have been a little traumatic. ;)

I miss you buddy, if you are ever in town and dont stop by I will have to hunt you down and kill you. Best of luck in your new adventure, you deserve to kick back and enjoy.

I can make a laundry list of problems that would probably occur if they turned over operations to "local amateurs," but from the County's perspective, why would that not be a viable interim option?

A short-term lease to some well-meaning individuals with deep pockets would at least lengthen the deadline for longer-term negotiations.

And as much as the County surely wants a successful operation, revolving-door ownership is a financially viable business model in other commercial sectors. I have owned my home about 6 years. In that time period, I've seen the local bar change names and owners 5 or 6 times. It's constantly being rebranded, but it never closes. The operators may be losing money, but the landlord isn't. I wonder if a racetrack could survive the same way.

Of course the better option is to find a "white knight" that manages the place properly and promotes it successfully, but I think the scenario I described is more likely.

Not that I believe everything I hear on the radio but

Kuer (PBS) had a story this morning that the County says they have six different groups looking to run the place

Because there is no need to even entertain it. There are so many others wanting to take over right away that there is no need for an interim option. The county has some good people working with them to get a good set up right out of the gate.
It is awesome that there are locals wanting to help out. From the off road to auto racing/trackdays to motorcycle racing/trackdays, there are many locals that have offered to keep it going. And had there not been so much interest from solid organizations, keeping it local on an interim basis may have been a viable option. Even having the same group that operates the Deseret Peak complex that is adjacent (and technically MMP is part of) would have been a viable option if necessary.

So after all that, the short (and real) answer is that there is zero need for an interim option. The county is fully capable of making the right decision and I don't think anyone should be concerned at this point. The facility will continue to operate. Will there be some changes? Sure, but I doubt anything major will happen right away, nor anything major that would negatively impact the overall track operations.

    Track day at Miller

I live in Florida and flew to Miller, rented a bike and did a APEX track day on the FULL course. Holy Crap that was a intense day. Riding a 600RR when I'm use to a Superbike SV650, a 23 turn lap at a track I've never seen. I'll never forget it. It was awesome.

And now the Miller property across the street from the track is no longer in the offering for the prison relocation.
So not only will the track not turn into a prison, the Miller's property across the street won't either. Seems the company has decided to develop that property outside of any prison deals.
