I'm not fat, I'm husky. Or burly. Or big-boned. Plus-sized maybe.
And I'm not old, I'm mature. Seasoned. Experienced.

Just think of how strong you would get if you hiked every day with that 35 pound plate in a backpack.

    I'll pass that along.

    Thank you.

But I’d always have to lug that damn thing around!

It’s true that fat peoples usually have some pretty impressive calves! But in reality it comes down to frame and efficiency. We all have an ideal structure and weight. A balance that we were more or less “designed” for. Get too far from that and you’re asking for trouble.

For me, I’m pretty happy at about 195-205lbs. Any less and I feel too weak, much more and I’m uncomfortable.

No problem at all. The powerlifting world is where these boys belong......and I mean that in the highest regard.

    Equipment update:

Joey has a helmet, shoulder pads, jersey, and NO pants.

    We are almost there.

A lot of summer and early practice is in helmet, shoulder pads, and shorts. He can do drills and stuff.

I carried 235-240 for a few years. I felt strong as shit and had some PBs to be proud of in the gym, but it didn’t feel natural and I wasn’t as athletic. I struggled when I tried to play basketball, and then I started motorcycles and it was too much. I could bench press the bike, but couldn’t ride it more than 6 laps without being assed out.

Now I’m settled around 215, and never vary from that more than 2-3lbs in either direction.

Any more and I feel too bulky, any less and I feel like a girlyman.

I asked him what he had been doing each day with no equipment.

"Running, weights, pushing the sled, etc..."

Is he liking it? Has he taken any hard hits yet, and if so, how did that effect him?

He reminded me that he took hits last year in his short tryout for 9th grade football (He got sick, missed two days of tryouts, got cut).

This is 10th grade JV. I think he'll be fine, based on seeing the players on the team they scrimmaged last Friday. Not sure if he would feel them hitting him.

    Joey update:

Somebody finally figured out Joey could use a pair of the varsity team game pants while waiting on his pants.

Joey made his practice debut today on the defensive line. He was hit, delivered hits, and had fun.

Fun is important and forgotten with a lot of parents.

Local girls lacrosse is cut throat and all the parents are jockeying for the best team to try and get their kid to a D1 scholarship. I was asked by a few parents where my daughter was going to sign with and all this crazy shit. My reply was "I don't f@ckin' care, this is about fun." you'd have thought I farted and whipped out my dick.
