Have a great time! BTW, I read "A Walk In The Woods" and after laughing through the entire book I no longer have a desire to live that trip first hand. Good luck.
I always wondered how does one get the time off to do such a hike? Trail goes through a part of North Jersey that looks nothing like the rest of the State. When you cross over from PA, you'll be in the Delaware Water gap National Park. If you have the time, take the side trail up to the peak of Mt. Tammany. Well worth the hour hike, for it overlooks the entire valley: Just avoid the weekend (tons of daytrippers) and keep an eye out for Black bear.
He's updated his journal for those following. I'm keeping up with it, and reading them all when updated. Good reading. Feels like I'm on the trail also.
Great book. Bryson is hilarious. Good luck on the hike bro! Stop at Polly's Pancake Parlor in NH. Great grub.
Good luck!! You should think about starting at the beginning of the Pinhoti, Sylacauga, AL. Trail workers (ATA) have connected it to the AT through the BMT. I finished the Pinhoti last year in sections, it is a great trail to get you ready for the long haul. Kevin Wells on here (Paparazzi) finished the AT a couple of years ago and completed the PCT last year. Hit the green tunnel and have a blast!!
