My buddies Dad had a first gen, and I always wanted to buy it off him. He'd never even let me drive it lol. He gave it to his grandson a couple years back, and he set a new high score with the cops on the highway with it shortly afterwards lol. Big ticket, impound, $$$, etc. Car turned out to be rotten underneath, and as far as I know he parted it out/scrapped the rest. Always love Miata's and always wanted one. Someday......

As I recall, the original "Monster Miata" was a Ford 5.0 swap. I know a guy who has one of the first few built. Or, he did 10+ years ago.

I have heard of that issue, but I haven't dug into study it yet. One of the first things I thought of though. Plan to look into it right away.

Quick overview from my 20 years ago repair (assuming my memory is close):
    Failure mechanism
    - Bolt that holds timing pulley onto crankshaft is too short, doesn't get good enough engagement in crank, eventually backing out a little
    - Timing belt pulley, instead of being held in tension by bolt, is stopped from rotating on the crank by the woodruff key (which is only intended to align the pulley/crank)
    - Over time, pulley pushing on woodruff key wears away crank material, disrupting cam/crank timing

    Cheap Fix
    - Buy new longer bolt and new woodruff key
    - Fill in missing crank material with Quickmetal
    - Put it all back together and reset timing

I was just thinking the same thing. I think the flight got in last night and they are picking it up today?

She didn’t get in till almost 8pm last night.

And unfortunately she had a meeting with Copenhagen this morning that she couldn’t get out of.

But she is getting ready now. I just called the Uber to come get us to take us to the dealership.
