Same here. My son loves it and had me watch an episode with him. I just wasn’t feeling that episode. After giving it another chance, I’m a fan.
Another cool fan theory out there is that Rick knows he is just in a show, which Mr. Poopybutthole is watching and actually informed Rick of....that he is just a character in a series....(think Interdimensional Cable). Which is why Rick has a death wish and drinks. He knows he, being the main character, won't be killed off, but also has no control over his life, just being a character in a show and his path is carved out by factors out of his control. The entire Season three was really good. The level of continuity in an animated show is staggering. Rick only wore his seat belt twice. Once when he was detoxed and once when they had the breakthrough in therapy when he was Pickle Rick. Otherwise, he could care less about himself. Like LOST, there are a ton of hidden messages in some of the backgrounds that only reveal themselves with multiple viewings. The one liners are great.
The Squanch Podcast from Wisecrack's really dives deep into the psychological and philosophical elements that the show touches on.
Putting all your shit in a backpack and taking it to the shit store or the shit museum has become a regular reference of mine. That scene was perfect.

He gets a pass....name your topic some vague bullshit topic name and you deserve to be second place even though you won on the reaction time
It's been a long 2 years, but R&M is finally back in action. First S4 ep sure as hell didn't disappoint..... Rick: Morty, do you have a death crystal - in your pocket? Morty: No! Maybe! Rick: You little monster! I thought you were masturbating! Morty: And you took that in stride?!
Seriously?? First episode I turned off before done. It's like they tried to take every concept to date in the series and cram it into a single episode.
