Andy was much admired by his young SlayeRacing team mates. We will miss him. I am absolutely certain that he would have wanted us to grid right back up and go for it, so we did. Godspeed, racer.
When I started the awards ceremony on Saturday (which I wasn't really sure if I should do considering the sad news we had all just heard, but decided that it needed to happen), I quickly realized that the first 1st Place was for Andy. I really didn't know what to do then. Do I announce his name? Do I say that the award has been picked up already and don't say a name? I even asked a couple of officials how they thought I should handle that. We ended up agreeing that it would only be fitting to go ahead and announce his name and his win, and honor his memory. I have to say, that it was the most difficult time I have ever announced a rider's name for an award. I was choked up for a moment but managed to get the words out: "And appropriately, today's first 1st Place, Andy White". I know my face looked sad, as did everyone's. Andy was a fast guy. He was in the lead when the pack crossed the line to begin this lap. Seems like a good way to remember him. GODSPEED ANDY!! May You Rest in Peace Jeff Wright
Thank You Eddie! I appreciate that. It sure was difficult. Another rider thanked me on Sunday and said he appreciated and thought it was cool that I kept an upbeat atmosphere at the awards ceremony. Andy would have wanted it that way I'm thinking. Thanks!
Andy was a star! This picture was taken after the "Sip of water Solo 20" Andy was thirsty during the heavy weight solo and made a pit stop and took my water. He went on to win that race. Miss you bud.
