I used to get at least three sinus infections per year, sometimes five or six. My tonsils were removed in my early twenties and I can't remember the last time I got a sinus infection. I had a nasty case of tonsillitis which was the reason for the surgery, but the sinus infections pretty much stopped after the tonsils came out. I am certainly not a doctor, just stating my personal experience with sinus infections.
Hell no, the only thing this place can't do is figure out how to get a plane to fly off a treadmill. However, the main issue is I just don't have the time for any more doctor appointments with my current ACL tear, it's killing my productivity otherwise. I'm generally in keto, work out 5-6 days per week. Me eating crappy is a rare occurrence, however there is definitely a correlation between the activity and flareups. Almost guaranteed if I slip up at a wedding or family function I'll have a sinus infection the next day.
@shakazulu12 Dude, go hit the ENT specialist. IMO, one of two options. 1) Food allergy of some sort that you have around you all the time, but haven't realized you are allergic to it. Alternative: Mold/mildew allergy? 2) Your nasal passages are too slim to allow full drainage, so as a result the sinus infection keeps recurring. My friend had similar symptoms to what you describe; turns out she had to have minor surgery to open up the passageways. She's never had an infection since.
Sounds gut related. Must be something you are eating or not eating? I know you work out pretty seriously....what is your body fat percentage? I'm sure you know the lower you go the more susceptible you are to colds and the like. This combined with something not making your gut happy? I'm not a doctor, but I listened to some podcasts yesterday while I was swapping swingarms on the Ducati.
Anyone who just walks into a doctors office and says "my ___ is giving me trouble" and then goes right along with whatever the doctor says is a fool. Time is money for a doctor, so they get an average of about six minutes per patient to listen to your ills, figure out what's wrong with you, and devise a plan to treat it. Half the time they're just going to throw whatever medicine the big boobed pharma rep just gave them a brochure for at you to make you go away because medicine has become more about alleviating the symptoms with drugs than curing the underlying issue. If you have half a brain, do all of the research you can, educate yourself, and have a true discussion with your doctor. Don't be afraid to question him. Remember, he has to spend five or six minutes with you, and it's in his best interest to keep you coming back, while you have to live with (and pay for) the ailment and whatever "treatment plan" he puts you on.
Damnit, I guess I need to grow up and visit the doctor. I was hoping for a "just get a spray" or something. I hover around 9-10 percent body fat usually. I don't really get sick otherwise very often. Just sinus infections.
@shakazulu12 Gino's comment brings to mind some information from back when I was in full competition cycling mode; Overtraining. It's possible that in spite of your ACL, you could be at that point with fitness where "Peak" slips into "Sick" It's easy to train hard, but difficult to train easy (and preserve fitness peak instead of toppling into sick) Based on your symptoms though, I'm going to go with my prior statements.
Yes, thank you Captain Obvious. However trying to self-diagnose yourself on a Internet forum would probably also be considered half-brained.
If we were on gixxer.com or something I'd agree, but this place amazes me every single day with the wealth of knowledge it's members posses.
Well, overtraining is not going to be an issue for a while. Scheduling my ACL reconstruction for two weeks. I'm fucked for a while. Doctor can't believe I've still been walking around and lifting.
On some things yes, and if this was maybe the OP's first goaround with a sinus infection trying to get some general info, sure ok. But he has said he has been suffering from the condition for years, so doctor time would seem to be the answer.
I honestly didn't think it was that bad. I knew it was partially torn. I did this way back in September is the dumb thing. I've done this before, it's going to be a really long year coming back. But I should be able to lift upper body only again when I bet off crutches. I get skinny-fat real fast if I stop doing anything.
I'll make sure and send you a pair of hipster skinny jeans and a way too small V-neck t-shirt so you can fit in in the Pearl....
Speaking of the Pearl, holy shit did they f@ck up the Bridgeport Pub. I know its been like 10 years now, but how do you take a great pub and turn it into a mirror and steel Millenial bar?
I looked at my bottle and it's actually Flonase, not Nasonex. In any case, Fluticasone (Flonase) is OTC now. My local Walmart has the 120 spray for about $15. Might be worth trying for a week or two to see if it helps, then break down and go to doc if no improvement.
I'm sure they'll have something for you. Hell, maybe even a new overcoat.. http://shop.pimphats.com/PIMP-CANES_c9.htm
