Update: Brown Taxes Internet http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-amazon-tax-20110630,0,4344787.story
Sweet. It's only on Large out of State retailers like Amazon. It will help the little guy retailer, and we get sales tax from all the broke ass States that get our money from the Fed Gub. WOOT!!!
It'll only drive businesses out of California even faster. California customers will just choose to buy somewhere where they won't have to pay sales tax. California will piss away any additional revenue in about 2 minutes.
Looks like H8R is wrong and SGV is right: "lose-lose proposition for Ca." Amazon's response; http://www.ocregister.com/articles/amazon-306409-affiliate-california.html
I like the disconnect towards California tax laws. The law says that retailers out of state are not required to collect sales tax for California. The law also requires California residents to pay the sales tax on interstate purchases. Why are we defending tax cheaters who are violating state tax law. http://www.boe.ca.gov/sutax/faqusetax.htm#11 Pay your legally required use tax at : http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub79b.pdf
And Navin Johnson taught us all that hand-writing checks to settle class-action lawsuits is a pain in the ass!
Yeah, no sh!t. I literally just found out (30 min. ago) I'll be loosing another good friend to an out of CA job oportunity. This will be 5 in as many years. I'm happy for all of them but this sucks having to find new friends. I'm getting old and craby and making new ones isn't as fun as it used to be. We are loosing some good people.
