Eh, I think it's actually a pretty decent use of the technology.

Are there a lot of places to plug in and recharge in the middle of the f'kin desert? It's not like you can just grab some gas from, well, almost anything when yours runs out in the middle of an op.....

In all honesty, those guys get just about whatever they ask for. They don't go through normal purchasing channels. They don't have to bid things out. They have their own (massive) budget without much oversight. If they're getting a silent electric dirtbike then they must have a need for one.

    Genius, really.
Battery runs down, you abandon the bike and it needs to be replaced.

They need to give those pieces of crap to the enemy and then chase em till they run out of battery.

    caferace No.

I can't picture the SF needing even close to a 90 mile charge range. They do everything fast.

some of their patrols are much longer (round trip) especially in the "frontier" type mini bases that a lot of them operate out of.

    caferace No.

So, you use conventional vehicles to ferry the guys and the bikes out to near the target, then offload and send in the stealth ninjas.

I don't really think saving the environment would be high on the priority list, but in the right scenario (obviously not every scenario), I can definitely see the benefits of using an electric vehicle over a gas powered one. It's quiet, generates less heat, and if it's sealed correctly, I bet you can submerge it and it will still work.

Also, if you guys read the article, it has modular power packs. You don't need charging stations. Just change them and charge the old ones later...

Is that any different than having to stop for gas?

Running out of gas just seems more manly, that's all.
