I'm not entirely sure what happened on Friday at Tally, but the engine in my GSXR600 lost almost all power accompanied by some nasty mechanical noises. By the time I came to stop, it had seized up solid and I can't get it to budge. I just need a good used motor I can run pump gas and send it down the track. I don't really care if it's a 600 or a 750. A built motor that takes race gas would is not in the cards for me. A newer model year would work as well if you've got one that you wadded up and want to sell the whole bike. I'm located in Northeast Louisiana, but I'll be out at Cycle Jam next month if you can haul it there. Thanks in Advance, y'all.
I will have an 06 750 available soon, im stealing all the suspension for an sv build. lmk what you need. Jerry
I've had a bit of a think, and I'm only really going to be happy with a 600 engine. I've already got my 890 and race that with the B bikes. I'd hate to have to choose which bike to race instead of racing both.
You might try giving Bud Lawter a call at Quicktime Sales in Spartanburg, SC. He might have one available. (864) 585-7127
Turns out they have one sitting on the shelf at a "local" salvage shop. The only problem is that I was hoping to spend closer to 1K on an engine, not 2k.. They're only 20 minutes from my mom, so I'm gonna go check it out this weekend while I'm down visiting. TLDR: I haven't found one cheap or local enough to buy yet.
search for 06-24, they're all the same if you use an 06/07 temp sensor and throttle bodies boots. will find something cheaper.
Drove 4 hours to Pensacola on Saturday to pick up an engine off of marketplace out of a wrecked bike. When I get there, I can see the intake valves are rusted like crazy. Turns out the bike was wrecked almost 2 years ago and he had only just put it up for sale. Turned around and drove home empty handed. Pulled the plugs out of my engine last week. One of these things is not like the other....
Look on FB marketplace , an 06 gsxr600 just popped up complete, running but rashed on left side. complete bike $1400 obo. it is an insurance total loss he says. Located Lake Forest Il. User is Pete Fitzwell. Good luck.
I just sucked it up and bought a whole bike from the local salvage yard because I need to start getting it ready for Cycle Jam. Thanks to all who reached out. Bonus: A picture of the sweet bike I picked up with it's super custom subframe and epic bar risers
On that note, does anyone need a set of wheels? They're actually kinda nice despite the rest of the bike. The see-through stator cover and matching clutch cover are NOT for sale. They're gonna make my race bike soooo cool (jk)
those are the best straps to use for bikes. i have the same ones and use them to strap down my canopies in the pits too.
I'd recommend the shorter version TBH. The longer ones in the picture will loosen up some when you don't use them in a longer application. Never had a problem with my small ones
Nary a scratch on the bottom of the oil pan that I saw, but thanks for the heads up. I think more concerning was the fact that the engine was only held in with one bolt. I guess someone tried to pull the engine a long time ago but didn't have the special tool so gave up. Nevermind that the battery was mounted to the top of the rear fender, or that the head and tail lights were ziptied in place. I cut those and left them behind.
the part that would steer me away is that it looks to be a ex-stunter bike with the dirt bike bars on it. guarantee that one has lived on the limiter . good luck hope it works out.
I took the time to strip the old engine for hardware, valve shims, and other bits including this lovely souvenir. This is cylinder 1. Crazy thing is that cylinders 2 and 3 had both managed to ingest some bits of piston #1, just not to such a catastrophic result. I got the new engine fired up and it immediately filled my shop with an impenetrable amount of smoke. It's shocking how much oil this thing dumped into the exhaust before it locked up. All that's left now is to heat cycle the engine, check for leaks, top off the coolant, and load it up for NOLA this weekend
