Why free health care won't work

I don't now exactly what the percentages are... But that is not the point is it?

The point is that health care is a huge profit making business...

Health care should be driven by human well being, not corporate profits...

See, no one is asking you or the government to pay everyones medical bills...

The problem with health care is IT'S COST... The cost is unreasonable!!!

You can go to any drug store and buy a bottle of 100 Tylenol for $10.00...
The hospital charges $12.00 for one Tylenol pill... That is frikig ridiculous!!!

Actually... Most doctors listen for 3 seconds to 20 seconds before they interrupt the patient. If asked after the appointment 50% of Doctors and patients disagree on what the purpose of the visit was. 50%! Normally this interruptions cause the diagnosis to stray from the main problem...it is simple Doctors try to tell quickly what is wrong. The not so funny part is...On average a patient will explain everything in 2 minutes. Doctors need to listen for only two minutes...thats it.

The physical exam is a dead art. They still teach it in medical school...but all Doctors do now a days is order test and wait for their results. Most of the time the things they miss by doing a poor physical exam and history taking extends illness and increases costs.

Yeah, I have a big problem with doctors. Everytime I need to see one I'll call and the next soonest slot is never less than 3 or 4 weeks out.

My kid was sick a couple weeks back and needed to see a doctor and have a note before they'd let him back in at the day care. They said they couldn't see him for 2 weeks! WTF is up with that?

I saw my doc 3 weeks ago. He wanted some bloodwork done. Said call back at the end of the week for the results. Been calling for 2 weeks now. Hello? You're my doctor....you know how I did on the test....shouldn't you be calling me?

Don't even get me started on dental coverage......

How would UHC address any of those issues?

Excellent question. I guess it depends on why they're flakey in the first place. Is it due to staff shortages that are financially related? Or simply management issues. Can't say if UHC would be better or worse. At least if its worse I won't be further insulted by asking to pay in advance! :D

My issue with the doctors is they simply don't care. I know some will tell me to switch doctors. But I've had 7 or 8 doctors over the years and they are all the same.

I had a 1:00 pm cardiologist appointment one time where my doc failed to return from lunch. They informed me at 3:30 he wouldn't be returning to the office.

My son's pediatrician schedules 8:00 am appointments yet doesn't arrive at the office until 9:00.

Failure to have prescriptions phoned into the pharmacy.

Me having to chase down my own lab results.

Things like that irk me to no end. I don't see failure to show up, or booking appointments prior to your arrival time, to be insurance/financially related.

That's not what my experience has been and I've received a physical every year of my life since the 4th grade when I started football. Of course those pre-season football physicals were a joke but since high school my physicals have varied very little. That includes 9 years of Navy physicals(2 per years on submarine) and one every year since Navy.

In all fairness, my physicals are governed by the regulations so they can't vary much. The ones in the Navy and the ones for the 15 years following have been almost identical. After the Navy they started doing pulmonary function tests because of the Haz Waste work and we occasionally get different blood analysis depending on what we are doing. The docs aren't allowed to do any additional tests unless they want to pay for it. They can only recommend. That's the same with "civilians". If you don't want the test then don't let them take it.

When I hit 40 they varied in one aspect. :D

If you find that physicals are an artform then you've got serious issues. :p

I do not know... I do not think the food market is raping us... There are shipping, service, and maintenance costs... Every one a to make some proffit... Still, a gallon of milk is about $3.50 ...If a gallon of milk was $48.00 then it would be an issue.

Gas for example, In Venezuela it is $0.27 per gallon... I believe we are comfortable paying $2.00 to $2.50 per gallon... How can we reason paying $4.00 per gallon... Who's pocket is taking $2+ dollars profit per gallon? ...Someone is making millions of dollars profit each day... It can not be justified...

On the housing market I feel that the banks are raping everyone who can not buy cash in full...

Any $100,000.00 Will cost you $300,000.00 To finance it...
Any $500,000.00 Will cost you $1,500,000.00 To finance it...

So the builder makes a profit... Building it...
The realtor makes a profit... Selling it...
The Bank s nt mke a profit... The banks just RAPES the buyers for 30 years!!!

I could see the banks making 50% profit on the sale cost of a house... But 200% profit is kind of steep!!!

REASONABLE You buy for $200,000.00 you pay $100,000.00 finance fee @ $833.00 per month = $300,000.00 TOTAL

But the system works like this...

UNREASONABLE You buy for $200,000.00 you pay $400,000.00 finance fee @ $1667.00 per month = $600,000.00 TOTAL

I guess it is just the way it is...

Understand that I don't mind people making a some profit...

I bet if you were one of the owners of the gas company or the bank you wouldn't be bitching about too much profit.

    You must be a scientist...

Do we care about the 5% of the population?

Or do we care about the 95% of the population?

I am NOT saying they should not make a profit...

Look, if they tell me gas prices are up to help finance the war... I would understand and I would not bitch...

But, if I am buying an island to the owner of the oil company... Screw that guy!!!

Actually, I'm an engineer, and if I design something that people want to buy, I hope I make enough money to buy my own island so that I can send you postcards from it. And I don't care about any percentage of the population, I care about individual rights.

If someone does a good job at running a business, they should be rewarded, by whatever amount the consumers decide by paying money to that business. Why should there be a cap of how much profit someone can make?

Actually most in favor of the Government takeover of health care would have no issue with taking an invention of yours that cured cancer to deny you profit in order to serve the masses. Never mind the commitment to development of the drug and its cost to you. Socialism at its best. Stifle progress through threat of seizure for the common good..

OK, say you brake your arm...

If you go to the Hospital ER, it takes 6-8 hours for them to see you...

If you want a doctor appointment, it takes about 30 days...

Mexico is 3-1/2 hours and they see you right away... Cost in Mexico:

    Gas round trip $60.00
    X Ray $25.00
    Doctor $35.00
    Cast $12.00
Food and drinks for 3 $36.00

    TOTAL $168.00

Sure, here in the US you get quality medical care... Cost here in the US:

    X Ray $170.00
    Hospital ER Visit $550.00
    Doctor fee $180.00
    Cast $80.00
    Rehabilitation and strength training $800.00

Insurance deductible: Not meet for your plan
Rehabilitation: Not cover under your plan

    TOTAL $1,780.00

Brain surgery, a heart transplant... Yeah you are better off here... You will live to pay until you die... :D

I'm not going to defend everything banks do, but this is wildly inaccurate and needs to be corrected. $300,000 over 30 years is NOT a 200% ($200,000) profit on $100,000 today. Not even remotely close. Please tell me I don't have to explain why.
