    Hey Mongo,

Should I fax my licence application or just bring it with me?

    Back to the original question:

Wife wants to stay in a hotel. Any suggestions? Something near Nellis?

La Quinta near Nellis is not so bad, the only casino style place I would stay in that close to the track would be Cannery.

Check Cheapovegas.com for some deals, Expedia or Kayak for others. Remember you are staying Vegas during a weekend so the prices are jacked up and there is a major porn convention going on that weekend so they will be "fluffed" more (pun intended)

We've stayed at the Super 8 directly across from the main entrance to Nellis and it's not TOO sketchy. However, if I were to go back I'd probably choose either the Holiday Inn Express or the La Quinta that Bones just mentioned. Both are just a little up the road (back towards Las Vegas) from where the Super 8 is and maybe 10 mins to the track.

Be sure to visit the Walmart while you're there.

Like Rob said, camping is free (yay!) There are no showers at the Vegas track. A few hotels nearby - La Quinta & Holiday Inn Express.
There's a Super Walmart just down LV Blvd from the track (about a mile or so) in case you forget anything.

There is an RV dump, water and propane at the truck stop fuel station that is located up near I-15.

Like Rob said before... but a bit more detail...
The track overhead sign says ZMax, and Proving Grounds. It's just about dead across the LVMS access road from the tunnels that lead to the infield. The access road will take you straight out to Las Vegas Blvd if you miss the turn for the track - but trust me, you really cannot miss it.

There is only *one* building in the entire pit area of the Classic Course (aka Proving Grounds). This has the bathrooms and Reg & tech under the "canopy" along the side of the building.

On a side note, the Vegas security is pretty great, and WERA peeps are the best. I highly recommend you do NOT take any of your stuff to your hotel parking lot... lots and LOTS of people's shit have been stolen over the years from the hotel parking lots, and restaurant parking lots.
(ask the guy who's truck was stolen, or the couple who lost their rail trailer with the bikes on it in the hotel parking lot near the track, or the poor guy who's entire rig was stolen while they were eating dinner in joint after the races)
Just be very careful of your stuff outside of the track.

There is a gate girl, and they will typically close the gates around 9 or 10p; but if the gates are left open all night they will allow arrivals, but they will not allow anyone to leave (between certain dark hours) with bikes or a rig (like at midnight or 2 or 3am... for obvious reasons).

The track is fun, it's relatively simple - there are also several vids on youtube from riders so you can check it out.

Welcome to WERA... hope you enjoy your stay ;-)

Wish I could convince my wife that camping is a good idea. I like hangin' at the track. Who needs a shower anyway?

Good to know. The previous mention of Walmart made me think of evening entertainment, but supplies are good too.

    Yes, I can. ;-)

Maybe I won't get lost after all. ...and bathrooms! My wife will appreciate that :) How's the PA system? Any trouble hearing calls?

    I hear that.

Ooh, right. What's the gate fee?

Awesome post. Thank you. I'm really looking forward to coming back to WERA.

    You're welcome :)

The gate fee is $10/person / day so expect to pay $20 each. I don't know if there's a fee on Friday. The WERA days are $10 each day per person.

The PA can be difficult, but Mongo often has the announcements over an FM channel as well.

The parking lot/pit area of the Classic Course is also used by driving schools for training - therefore there are no posts of any kind there - lights, PA, anything.

The PA speakers will be run by generators on wheels, so if in doubt, I often park next to one of those.

    See you next weekend :)

Since it's Valentine's weekend, I'm bringing Valentine's cupcakes!!! Look for them in registration ;-)

I don't know how 'Super' that Walmart is but it sure was Scary Walmart when my son and I stepped foot in there 5 years ago. That's the reason for the  in my previous post.

Speaking of my son and LVMS, his g/f is riding there today and tomorrow with the two Yamaha Joshs (as well as the rest of the crew from the Champions School).

The Nellis Wal Mart is definitely one of the best in the country. Oxford, AL on prom night is still better people watching but Nellis ranks waaayyyy up there :D

Cool, my son is there this weekend taking the Yamaha school as well. What is your son's name? I will say "hi", I believe there are a few ladies riding the school this weekend.

The name of the street I mentioned turning right on is called Checkered Flag. This road runs between the classic course and the speedway.
