Update from Richard's wife

First, I would like to send out a special thanks to everyone, especially Beth and Tom for their moral support during this "nightmare." I read about the PornStar stickers and Richard and I were both deeply touched. We are very lucky to have such wonderful friends and we wouldn't get through this without you all.

Richard had a pretty restless sleep last night and I have requested an IV of coffee for myself. All joking aside, the doctors say he is coming along very well considering the extent of his injuries. He began physical and occupational therapy on Thursday and they have been training him to walk without putting pressure on his broken foot. Earlier this morning I dozed off to find him standing up beside his bed!! We are hoping for a release sometime middle of next week. Most likely he will then be transferred to Sheppard Spinal Center in Atlanta for further rehab.

I dont know either one of you but that is really great news to hear. This past week has been tough for everyone in the WERA family in one way or another and that is some really good news. Take care and fight through all the rehab Richard!

DeeAnn and I heard of Richard's accident so we found this cafe to get on the BBS to see how he is doing. Glad to hear that he is going to be alright! Our thoghts and prayers are with you both! I've missed a lot since I've been injured--- but at least we are taking a much needed vacation (we are in Maui right now) in a little cafe near the beach.

That's great news! We were all so worried about him! You should have seen Talladega this weekend with the "P star" stickers everywhere! Trucks, trailers, race bikes, dirt bikes, they're on everything! Call me when you get back to Atlanta and have a chance to sort of catch your breath. 770-335-9127. Yeah, same here. Someone's gotta take up the slack- it just wasn't the same at Tally with people only waving to me.

Brannan, thanks for the update! I will call today. I had a message on my cel from Richard but Tally isn't exactly good for reception so I couldn't call back. I have a looooong list of people wishing him well.

 

You are very welcome. That's what the WERA family is all about. Everybody stopped by to ask about Richard and were all glad to hear he's doing so well. His phone calls this weekend really lifted our spirits even though I know he's being a real pain in the ass right now.

Hang in there as it will get better once he's home and comfortable and the morphine wears off.

Don't hesitate to call if you need anything and I'll be down in Atlanta this weekend so I'll give you a call to schedule a visit. Depending on how long I'm there I may be coming over to stay in my spare bedroom.

I tried to call the hospital room a couple times on my way home from the track but nobody answered. I guess that means you were out in the hall chasing Richard down as he tried to get out and go to Talladega.

Keep the updates coming so we know how our Team Owner is doing and where to send cards and make harassing phone calls.
