Yup, they missed the opportunity to make engine upgrades in this refresh. Sharp car with a fair amount of performace. It is now on my radar!
The latest edition of Car and Driver magazine says that there's a roadster edition scheduled as a late-fall 2014 model. Looks good in the photo too.
problem is you have to drive them like you're riding a 60's 125cc two-stroke. Keep it in the top third of the tach. Especially the first couple years that were real 2 liter engines. They made peak horsepower at 7,000 RPM or something like that. Honda bumped the displacement up later to drop the torque curve, but I'm not sure they ever compensated for the extra weight of the slightly larger engine. Great handling cars for sure. I've seen them do impressive things around Mid-Ohio in the hands of the instructors. But it's kind of like buying a high-strung bike for street use. Less than ideal. a used Nissan 350Z would probably be more practical.
I have both, a 350z does not even compare to the s2000. while mine is an ap2, i do know that the ap1's are fun as hell to drive. s2000 just might have the best shifter/transmission ever put in a car. it is more reliable than a 350z. it has better suspension than the 350z it has better brakes than a 350z (even better than the track package) it has a better interior honda build quality vs nissan build quality. enough said. s2000 hold their value much better. the vq35de is not as strong as the f20 or the f22c1 (what mine has) the s2000 is my beater track car, and the 350z is my old beater track car. the s2000 is so much more fun to drive. (baby nsx)
And still is, $3k for used btw. S2000 is also slow, don't think it is much better than BRZ (did not drive brz). Thing is with either one you have to live with the fact they don't go fast and take it for what it is. I am already tired of my S2k after 1 year and few track days, need mo power And I am tired of scratching helmet and holding my head down while steering with knees.
but its fun slow! are you selling your hardtop? do you know if the ap1 top fits the ap2? They have an individual throttle body setup for your car! they also respond pretty well to turbos! an ITB setup with a pair of good cams, full exhaust, headwork and suspension makes that car go a long way! (with either hondata or aempro...I am running a fastpro system) you can also do a 2.4 stroker!
Actually I am, just got carbon fiber top and selling stock OEM one. All tops are same for fit as far I know, but colors are different. Already blew up one motor without turbos or add on's. I will just get faster car.
where did you get the carbon top If i may ask? i am seriously thinking about buying this. what do you think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brian-Crower-Stroker-Kit-Honda-S2000-F20C-F22C-S2K-/200485574180
Bought used from guy. It does not fit that great but it is ok, it is track car only so I don't care much. Dude, leave it alone, it is like honda bikes, you need cousin in HRC to make it go and work good . I have run after turbo'd one on the track, it only pulls me couple car lengths down the straight. You need to put V8 in it
the nsx has served me well so far putting down close to 600whp reliably for over a year now with the turbo/motec setup ! I dont see why the s2000 cant. I know it doesnt have ti rods and all but a built f22c cant be too bad! I have seen some 270-280whp 2.4 stroker s2000...that would make it fun! a v8 would make that thing so unbalanced! I am sure you are right Zoran! I am sure i would grenade the thing down MSR! but it would be worth it!
Don't think LS1 motor they putting in them is that heavy. Couple bags of sand in back and it is balanced
lots of people are putting supra motors in them...but only to drag race! s2000 motor weighs 150 (ls1 is 475) less than an ls1!
but you still have all that in front of the front wheels! (with the ls1) thats gona suck at the track. sell me that carbon top when you sell the car!
