I would do both, myself. A friend of mine has an annual big off-road ride, and I believe he works with the AMA to purchase insurance and utilizes their waivers.
Looking to see how this ever came out. Looking to do something similar in a lot I have been giving the go ahead to make a flat track/TT track. What would be an ideal lot size. I have about an acre give or take to work with.
equipment is skid steer with various attachments, mini excavator, and if needed a large excavator and 6axle dump trucks. We got the equipment side of things covered lol. Dirt is just dirt at this point. I’m sure clay based is the way to go but not sure I will be able to get my hands on any.
In November I decided it was time for my oval and TT track, and being end of grass cutting season figured I’ll finish out the life of the blades on the riding mower. Dropped to the lowest setting, then hung off one side putting weight onto the deck made it dig into top layer of dirt. About 20 or so of oval runs and the tt course, worked like a charm on the mower. The ttr125 and klx140g are perfect. The yz125 is great on the big course but a handful on the oval………but the challenge is damn fun!!
Please consider reaching out to your local state representatives and ask them to introduce and pass similar legislation in your state. Sounds like the equestrian folks have set an example for us to follow: https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/arkansas-passes-motorcycle-racing-inherent-risk-legislation/
My buddy in Madison reassigned his old zero turn mower into a trail cutting tool. He has a unique soil base thats GA red clay with coquina sand mixed in. After a rain it's traction magic.
Start with a big oval around the perimeter of the property. The terrain will then tell you where to best add some inner loops, leaving a safe distance from the outer loop.
