I need to get into touch with Lee Acree or one of the Arclight members to get some setup info for the new Dragon Evo's. OR if anyone has some specs they could mail me on the tire composition I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm the crew chief for Arclight Racing. I'll be glad to help. Let me know what you need.

Unless you consider it a team secret <G> Can you post the info here on the bbs?

I purchased an AMA spec GSXR 600 which pulls anywhere from 107 to 110 (RWH) depending on the fuel I run. It has already been set up for the tires, but for someone shorter and heavier than myself. The info that I need is following

    1. Recommended heat up time under warmers/best warmers to use (Sox/Chicken Hawk/Bandit)

    2. Pressures for superbike 31/29???

    3. When exiting turns 3 and 4 and 5 at putnam the fron wheel shimmies quite a bit. Is there a suspension setting that would be standard for me. I am 6'1 and 136 lbs.

I know these questions may seem very simple, but I just came off of a ZX7 (Sled) and the weight differential has upset my riding style. Any info would be helpful...

Also, I have questions pertaining to rain tires such as lean angles and just how far you can push them. I have the matching rains, but haven't had a chance to use them so I'm unfamiliar with their handling capabilities.

(Maybe all my problems would be solved if I'd been born in Owensboro Kentucky and my parent's last name was Hayden) :P

You'd have the same questions - you'd just be much younger when you asked them [IMG]

I'll take a stab at your questions WERA_16, except for the tire warmers since I've never used them. As for the pressures, check with the official tire representative at the track where you're racing. Pressures will be different depending on tire brand, ambient temperature, track temperature and other variables. As for the rain tires, same goes. It will all depend on track conditions and temperatures.

I rode at Roebling last weekend in the rain on a set of Pirelli DOT's that were pretty shot from previous track days and had no problem in the rain. Just twist the throttle until you feel the rear starting to slip, then quit twisting.

As for the shimmie you speak of, it could be a number of problems, possibly not even suspension. Have you checked the steering head bearings? The best advice I can offer is to visit Max McCallister at the Traxxion Dynamics truck next time you're at the track, shell out $40 and have him set your suspension/sag for you. After that you can go back for additional adjustments (at no additional charge), advice and even some abuse if you want. He is the man when it comes to suspension.

And the advice I once received from an old friend I will share with you. "Just get out there and ride the damn thing!"

Hey we all have to start somewhere. I', just a squirrel trying to get a few nuts (No Pun intended) [IMG].

But on a serious note, I am switching from an old dinosaur to a bike that will take me where I need to go. It's got more power than I know what to do with, and I love it. ANd I'm all about twisting that throttle, hell I get a woodie lookin at the thing, but alas, I am a victim of moderation. I want to learn ASAP before I hit Road Atlanta and become a speed bump in the gravity cavity (which I still can't figure out how the NC schedule got RA in it) [IMG] but hey, any chance to take on a AMA track is experience beyond experience.

Where is that HMFIC when you need him anyway [IMG]

Ummm, short answer on Road A in the NC region - money of course. Longer and more serious reason, it added another event in a region that was slightly shorter than the others and Road A is easier to get to than some of the other options. It also helps gives guys from the NC a reason to come get some track time prior to the GNF.

I've actually had some requests to put that event in the Mid-Atlantic region as well...

On the other stuff - my best guesses (and these are guesses - there are many others that will have more accurate answers for you)are:

If Dunlop DOT's - 30/28 everywhere, every condition (worked for Brian at least) and make sure you are getting the pressures from a good tire guy - some of them have just jumped in the truck and know how to work the machine, they are not all experts. If any doubt find the faster experts and ask.

Tire Warmers - if cost is not an issue - KLS, if cost is then the Chickenhawks or Sox, I've used Sox with good results and and have heard fantastice reports on the 'hawks.

Length of TIme - 45 minutes if hot, the colder it is the longer you need them. Could be off so wait for Chucks answer before you believe me. Also, ask your tire guy, wait, no don't do that - ask Walt Schaefer on any tire questions no matter what tires you run. He has the most experience of any tire guy out there and is one of the nicest people you'll ever buy expensive imported beer for [IMG]

Need more details - first race you can, take the bike to Max at Traxxion dynamics, have him check the springs (or ask whoever you bought the bike from) front and rear. Then set everything right in the middle, take a practice day and try every possible combination you can - first go one way then the other on the front (leaving the back alone) then move to the back. Take notes bfore and after every change, learn what each knob twist feels like to you and have the info on paper in your own words. Once that is settled, try rasing and lowering the forks in the triple clamps to see if your style may be helped by a higher or lower font end - Brian Lantz likes his one way, Mark Junge the other, on fairly identical machines and they both turned the same laptimes... Of course they are a little weird [IMG]

The point of all of that rambling is try your own adjustments and TAKE NOTES!!!!

WERA 16, alot of your tire questions could be answered by reading the recent tire tests in Roadracing World or Sport Rider magazines. Of course you could wait to talk to Rich Munson or Walt Schafer at the track, but their time is sometimes short and alot of the answers will be long. Your best bet is to do some reading then go ask questions.

When judging your motorcycle's performance from riding it only at Putnam Park, remember that Putnam is the smoothest track that club racers get to ride on regularly. Most of the other tracks are much bumpier and have different (read less grippy) surfaces from patch work , pavement sealer, VHT, etc.

My understanding is that the sidewall and carcass of the Pirelli/Metzelers are very stiff requiring a different spring rate than other tires might like. They are great tires at a great price with great people representing and selling them.

I'm sorry to say that Road Atlanta no longer has the "Gravity Cavity." It has been replaced by "The Chicane", or "The 90s", or "The New Turn", or turns 10 and 10A. Everyone seems to like the new layout. I'm just glad that I got to ride through the Cavity and tell the tale of having my head against the wall of the bridge at 100 MPH. Of course I crashed there and ended up all the way down on pit lane, but that's a whole 'nother Oprah.

    Damn!

    Still only a novice.

I have read the results in both Sport Rider and RW. Obviously the info was better with Mark's section. (Am I on a first name basis? Nope, still a novice) Anyway, Chuck from Arclight is trying to help me out and he is awesome (we are allowed to plug on the BBS Right?) he knows his stuff. Unfortunately I don't.

The problem is, coming out of a first year, and trying to cram all the info is tough. That's why I need info from experience, and boys can help me to figure out how to set my sage or what to what reults in what.

I am open for any info. I take criticism well because we all were squids (some still are without the shirts) [IMG]

I will make request now: On April 1 and 2, or 2 and 3 whatever that weekend is cycle options is holding an open practice and if anyone is going who can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

(I'll even buy the beer - after racing of course) [IMG]

If you would still like to get in touch with Lee you can call Tri City Honda Yamha Sea Doo in Greensboro NC. He works there.
